The Lyrics

And speaking of Running Bear retellings ... :-)
Now, here’s the story of young “Dashing Bruin”
and his love for “Mini Alabaster Squab,”
which the latter in her turn quite requited
like Laura P. loved Rob.*

Alas, this story’s of kids’ rash pursuin’
of a love their tribal rivalries forbade.
The river ’tween’em kept them from screwin’ --
it was too wide to wade.

But the day came when the pair met splashing ruin.
Legend says they drowned together, but the crunch
fishermen near heard says the damsel
and her would-be suitor made a gator’s lunch:

“I heard the crunch,
I heard him munch …
so I’d say they became that gator’s lunch.”
* That’d New Rochelle’s Petries, of course.

Thanks, all.
Fiddle -- after a relook I'm pretty sure there are a couple of little pacing glitches, but I'm _really_ disinclined to subject myself to a listen to the OS to be sure. ;-)
