The Lyrics

I love songs that don't seem to make a lot of sense but sound perfectly logical and matter of fact and reflect the craziness that is life. Here's a little slice of that crazy life where a guy finds himself in a situation he doesn't want to be in, fails miserably, but winds up sitting very very pretty. Hope you get a rise out of it.
HIDING IN THE TREE LIKE A SQUIRREL

The sounds from the radio had crawled into my brain
I wound the clock around my head in space and time
Found cook kneading dough as was our usual arrangement
Now she’ll probably slap my face off
When she finds who's to blame
So as she turns the oven on I start to walk outside
The matches flash - then her curses - I tried to hide
She starts screaming my name and man I was scared to death
And deathly quiet as I hid in the shrubs

I was hiding in the tree like a squirrel
Biting on my lip like a girl
Nestled in a clam like a pearl
Dear, Lord I hope the gas man’s coming
'cause I really started something.

Things got back to normal as the gas was soon turned on again
Our bread and rolls came out about thirty minutes later
A dark and bearded customer knocks on our door looking grim
Glasses splattered rain drops slide off his droopy hat
Slaps down two ones he does and demands an ice cold coke
I opened the ice box like a good bloke

I ran outside up the tree like a squirrel
Biting on my lip like a girl
Nestled in a clam like a pearl
Dear, Lord I hope the ice man cometh
'cause I really started something.

And then my boss, a master baker goes and grabs an axe
Begins to chop away I started shaking like a leaf
Hiding from responsibility not always best
And anyway they always find you - wish I’d simply stayed in bed
Now find me downing stiff ones nights at the local bar
But don’t feel sorry for me ‘cause now I’m a rock star

I'd been hiding in the tree like a squirrel
Biting on my lip like a girl
Nestled in a clam like a pearl
Dear, Lord I hear my groupies coming
'cause I really started something.
I love nice stories with happy endings.

Pretty sneaky! When I was a kid, I would always hide from my parents when I'm in for it. Unfortunately, they're good at finding me out and I get in trouble anyways. Another thing I like to do with trees is to climb to the highest branch while I read my book. It's more fun that way! You're quite a storyteller in this parody! Enjoyed it as a straight read and song! 555 acorns!

I liked it, but didn't quite understand just what it has to do with the weasel under the cabinet... ;)

@ Christie - Thanks for taking the time to share that. I loved climbing in trees as a kid, hung ropes to swing like Tarzan, played on a platform some other kids built in a big oak. Storytelling is something I love to do so I'm glad you enjoyed this little piece.

@ FG - Now Fiddlegirl, you can have quotes like that follow you to your grave if you aren't careful. It'd take a pint 'er two to explain the meaning behind that story because you'd have to be in an altered state to get it but you'd have to understand the OS too so I'm guessing that might be a little difficult to do.

@AFW - yeah, I actually like stories you can interpret differnt ways and/or fill in the blanks any way you wish. I love the OS but I actually read it again as a straight read like Christie Marie M said she did and it's pretty good that way too.

Borris--Squirrel ees freaky n' fun... some great rhymes in this Dahliesque episode of Rocky n' Hoodwinkle!?

@ TJC - "Dahliesque" as in Roald Dahl and Salvadore Dalí? With a little Jay ward and Raymond Chandler thrown in maybe? If so, I think I achieved my goal. Thanks for the witty and thoughtful comment.
