The Lyrics

I really thought the whole Chick-fil-A brouhaha was over and done with. Then a couple things happened. Another parody yesterday of boycotting the place, like who cares if someone refuses to eat there and who cares if I eat there. Let's get a life. The thing that really pissed me off is the Santa Barbara deal. A city architectural board is rescinding approval for a new store plainly for political reasons. Two of the members admitted it. Higher ups had to step in and rectify the matter. I guess I'm a bit of a nit picker about the First Ammendment. If anyone can provide an example of four large metropolitan areas who have conservative elected officials that have threatened a single business because of that business owners liberal views, please bring it to my attention. I will write a parody even more vitriolic than this one. It's the G-D--M FIRST AMMENDMENT!

What the hell's going on now
Over in golden state land
In a place called Santa Barb(ara)
Looks like another Chick-fil-A ban
The city board put heads together
They voted to say adieu
All of a sudden Chick-fil-A can't open
'Cause the owner don't agree with their views

So goodbye freedom of speech
'Cause the libs in our government prowl
They got their plant in the Whitehouse
They're showing they adore Mao
They're disemboweling our body of rights
Gutting the rules as they go
Oh they're spreading deception and futile lies
Because they swallow rats whole

Who do you think they'll screw next
They'd like to shut down ol' Bain
It'll take a couple of executive orders
I wouldn't put it past Hussein
Every damn day, a debasement
There's plenty like them around
Morons who act very petty
Snuffing out freedom of speech, look around

So goodbye freedom of speech
'Cause the libs in our government prowl
They got their plant in the Whitehouse
They're showing they adore Mao
They're disemboweling our body of rights
Gutting the rules as they go
Oh they're spreading deception and futile lies
Because they swallow rats whole

They do indeed like Mao, who is the worst mass murderer in human history. A few years back, the White House Christmas tree had an ornament showing Mao's face. Even noted leftwinger John Lennon didn't approve of "pictures of Chairman Mao".

Brock, parody = making a point through humor, usually deftly and lightly. I recommend Tom Lehrer's National Brotherhood Week as a good introduction. And a valium.

And let's not forget Obaminion, Anita Dunn. The former WH communications director said Mao was one of her favorite philosophers. The other was Mother Theresa, who she name-checked no doubt because a spoonful of sugar makes the commie go down. On a related note, Dunn is married to Obama thug lawyer Robert Bauer, who tried to get the DOJ to prosecute conservative critics and punish TV stations for running an ad critical of Obama’s relationship with Weather Underground Bill Ayers. Which brings us back to...wait for it...Freedom of Speech!

Name... "conservative elected officials that have threatened a single business because of that business owners liberal views"

Well, more than just a few private owned abortion clinics in all fifty states comes to mind...

Great song! Dealing with the morons on the other side is an adventure all in itself.

I once saw a silhouette of Che Guevara on a street sign in Kansas City, Kansas. It was there for a week or so before someone painted it over. Liberals want to make the rules until rules become inconvenient, then they ignore them. This is nothing more than old time political bossism. Forget Kenya, forget Indonesia, Obama, as a politician was born in Chicago.

Thanks, Steve. Thanks, Hal. Tom Lehrer's a pro, I like my amatuer status. Besides, there's a buttload of lefty examples right here on this site for edification. As for valium, I find amyl nitrate puts me in the parody mood. It worked for Dennis Hopper in "Blue "Velvet". Thanks, OP. I get your point, comparing abortion clinics to fast food joints. It certainly seems like abortions have kept pace with Big Macs. Thanks, Randy. Who doesn't like adventure? Thanks, Patrick. Chicago politics is where ethics go to die. And then they re-animate and spread like soulless zombies.

CFA's president is an a**hole, but there's no law against being one. We 535 in Congress, for example, and they make laws. SF, SB, and Chi trying to keep franchises out conflates the a**hole with franchisees, who may or not also be homophobic dinosaurs. And, Mao? C'mon guys, really.

@ Oh Please: Suppose that a business owner or exec came out in *favor* of gay marriage [1], and a city immediately banned them? Can you imagine the roar from the other side?
Those who believe that life begins at conception (I am not among them, FWIW) sincerely believe that what HAPPENS in abortion clinics is murder. They oppose the ACTIONS, not just the philosophy. The CFA official has not taken any actions against gay employees or customers, as news media on all sides have openly acknowledged. He also has no power to stop them from marrying or forming domestic partnerships wherever it's legal to do so. Only Gov can prohibit things -- like opening a restaurant. See the diff between individual free speech and Gov power?

@ Brock O'Brahma: For support, here's three Fives. See what Voltaire said about defending the right of others to say things with which one disagrees.

[1] Note that Obama broke a 2008 campaign promise (one of many) to promote gays in the military, by NOT interfering in the firing of Dan Choi, a US serviceman and translator of Arabic who came out as gay and was fired for it. The BO admin considered the matter and did nothing. Obama didn't come out (so to speak) in favor of gay marriage until 3 1/2 years into his term as POTUS -- why wait so long? -- maybe because there was an election approaching, and he needed to distract attention from his miserable economic performance?

Thanks for v/c, TT! It would seem gay marriage is the liberal litmus test to attack and trash upstanding people. I remember in 2009, Miss California Carrie Prejean got raked over the coals for her views on marriage. I only wish I could have consoled her ;)

Interesting and well constructed

Thanks, AFW. I start out with an x-acto blade and paintbrush, but impatience quickly wins and out come the hammer and nail gun.

Thanks, Meriadoc. You know what they say...no guts, no gory.
Comrade Mao Tse-Tung - August 11, 2012 - Report this comment
Actually, China's Glorious Revolution has effective cure for homosexuality: if decadent capitalist sexuality not renounced and purged within week, we shoot bourgeois imperialist for counter-revolutionary sexual practices. See also comrade Che Guevara's equally effective Cuban homosexuality cure.
TT @ Comrade Mao & BO'B - August 12, 2012 - Report this comment
@ Comrade Mao Tse-Tung: Some fundamentalist Islamic states have the same "cure" for homosexuality, as reffed and ripped in the fourth verse here:
    http://www.amiright.com/parody/misc/gilbertsullivan91.shtml

Note that such dictatorships also have the same "cure" for any opinion that differs with the Official State Line, whatever it may be. Freedom of Speech, Life, Liberty, the Pursuit of Happiness (including gender pref) -- they all go together, or disappear together.

@ Brock O'Brahma: I see that with fewer than ten songs posted (upon which you get your own author page, and your name in the title box becomes a hyperlink to that page), you've not only a good grip on the basics of parody, but also on the other "necessity" here: punny comments, and even punnier replies to same. Hammer and nail gun appropriate for controversial topics, and "guts - gory" = LOL. :-D

What you must avoid at all costs is TT's shameless habit of self-promotion, although for anyone who has tried to make a living in show biz (some modest success, but not enough), self-promotion isn't a character flaw; it's an absolute necessity xD - and a tough habit to break. So, "gory" triggered thoughts of

@ Comrade Mao Tse-Tung: I remember that 60's song about you from The Rivingtons, "Papa-Oom-Mao-Mao" :) Thanks for your encouraging words TT. Not only are the parodies here truly funny, the comment section is a regular Algonquin Round Table! It's not easy keeping up.

Nice use of the original OS. Freedom of speech is the most vocal of all freedoms.

(channeling for one of her biggest fans, Fiddlegirl. this writer's occasional co-author -- FG, that is, not DP)

Ya shudda seen the place when this writer arrived in 2006. It has *declined* sharply since then, in both parody quality and commentary quality. Some occasional breaths of fresh air, and always nice to see promising new talent, e. g. another nice riff on the "Oom-Mao-Mao".

WRT your comment at Fiddlegirl's and my parody "Ode to Mary Jo (Kopechne)" about "anyone reading latest comments": When you get your own song page (10 songs posted), you also get your *own* "Latest Comments" page, devoted to the latest comments on your own parodies only. Very convenient for checking same, vs.. looking at mass lists or at all of one's hundreds of parodies, as we had to do before that feature was introduced.
Also lets you know whether an author has replied to your comments on her/his songs. E. g., for moi (TT),

and for the Fiddlegirl/TT team (there are two others about Chappaquiddick, by the way, all linked in the footnotes of the Marilyn Monroe parody of 3 August 2012 on which you've already kindly commented, plus one on Papa Joe Sr.), latest comments:

I must dig Fiddlegirl out of her prison some day -- she'd have loved the ART ref!
Brock O'Brahma - August 13, 2012 - Report this comment
Thanks for the comment, Warren. And @ "DP"(TT), if you can't dig Fiddegirl out, another escape option is to "straddle various" prison walls to freedom (ouch, tortured that pun) :o
TT - August 13, 2012 - Report this comment
Sorry, I've used the Strad pun a couple of times before.

TTip # (I've lost count): Never go for the obvious. (I've done the F-hole joke, but that one is fairly musician-specific).

I've e-mailed. We'll see if the prison known as The American Public School System gives her a furlough, or at least, internet access. ;)
