The Lyrics

A long, long time ago,
I can still remember when
Those thirteen colonies rebelled
And I know if it weren't for chance
This country would belong to France
And maybe their empire woudln't have fell
But our forefathers were not willing
To take arms and denounce the schilling-
To contend with España,
They sold Louisiana-
I don't know how long it's been
Or even if it should have been
But I proudly can stick out my chin
And say, "God Save the Queen!"
So...

Bye, bye Miss Canadian Cake,
Drove my Ford down to the fjord but it fell in the lake-
Them good ole boys were eatin ice cream and cake
Singin' this'll be the day we awake,
This'll be the day we awake

Did you use your common sense
And will you post your signs in french
If the Mountie tells you so?
Now do you believe in parliament
And paying tax without consent,
And can you teach me how to shovel snow?

Well, I know that he's in love with you
'cause I saw you hunting caribou
You both loaded up your guns
Go in the forest and run!
I was a lonely teenage horror story
With a pink carnation and a pickup lorry
But I knew that I shouldn't worry
And say, "God Save The Queen!"
I started singin'

Bye, bye Miss Canadian Cake,
Drove my Ford down to the fjord but it fell in the lake-
Them good ole boys were eatin ice cream and cake
Singin' this'll be the day we awake,
This'll be the day we awake

Now, for so long we've been on our own
But we still pay homage to the Throne
But, that's not how it's supposed to be
When the prime minister visited the Queen
In a coat he borrowed from Tom Green
And a voice that came from you and me
Oh and while the Queen was on her ride
Charles got old and the Queen Mum died
The coronation was unfound
No new monarch was crowned!
And while Gretzky's slapshots hit their mark
The Expos practiced in their park
And we all were left out in the dark
To say, "God Save the Queen!"
We were singin'

Bye, bye Miss Canadian Cake,
Drove my Ford down to the fjord but it fell in the lake-
Them good ole boys were eatin ice cream and cake
Singin' this'll be the day we awake,
This'll be the day we awake

Jungle bungle in a Winter Bundle,
The birds flew off to the arctic tundra
Eight kilometers high and freezing fast-
Landed flat in the grass!
The center tried for a backhand shot
With the jester in the penalty box
Now the intermission caused a roar
While zambonis smoothed out the floor-
We all got up to cheer,
Oh, but we sat back down in fear!
'cause the players tried to take the ice
But the floor conditions did not suffice
But they all remembered to play nice
And sing, "God Save the Queen!"
They started singin'

Bye, bye Miss Canadian Cake,
Drove my Ford down to the fjord but it fell in the lake-
Them good ole boys were eatin ice cream and cake
Singin' this'll be the day we awake,
This'll be the day we awake

Oh, and there we were all where we stood
A generation lost in the woods
With no time left to start again.
So come on Jack be nimble, Jack be good
Jack Flash gather the firewood
'cause winter is not the Great North's friend
And as I watched the fire dwindle
I threw some logs into the kindle
But nothing that we tried
Could keep that fire alive!
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To roast our marshmallows just right-
I smothered mine with Vegemite
And sang, "God Save the Queen!"
We were singin'

Bye, bye Miss Canadian Cake,
Drove my Ford down to the fjord but it fell in the lake-
Them good ole boys were eatin ice cream and cake
Singin' this'll be the day we awake,
This'll be the day we awake

I met a girl who spoke in french
And I asked her where her people went-
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard news of secession before,
But the man there said that there is just no way-
And in the streets protestors screamed
And the drunken politicians dreamed,
But not a vote was taken-
The Québeçois were mistaken.
And the three men who had led the way-
Joliet, Champlain, and Cartier,
They caught the train to Hudson Bay
And sang, "God Save the Queen!"
And they were singing

Bye, bye Miss Canadian Cake,
Drove my Ford down to the fjord but it fell in the lake-
Them good ole boys were eatin' ice cream and cake
Singin' this'll be the day we awake,
This'll be the day we awake.

Bye, bye Miss Canadian Cake,
Drove my Ford down to the fjord but it fell in the lake-
Them good ole boys were eatin' ice cream and cake
Singin' this'll be the day we awake.

HILARIOUS! This parody had me laughing out loud for real ... lots of great lines ... "And can you teach me how to shovel snow?" ... "While zambonis smoothed out the floor-" ... "And as the flames climbed high into the night / To roast our marshmallows just right- / I smothered mine with Vegemite"

excellent work - you "still pay homage to the Throne" just so you get to enter The Commonwealth Games - I'm onto you guys! - AND they're in my home town Melbourne next year *blows toy whistle* - 555

Song of the year? Doubtful. It never ends!!! Superb pacing, though!

Love this guy! He is just too funny! Has he been hiding for the past 5 years? Or - oh no! - has he been kidnapped by the Québeçois and forced to subsist on ice cream and cakeall this time? In any case - love his talent!
