The Lyrics

With apologies to Don McLean.......

American Lie

A long long time ago, you can still remember
How that oil used to make you smile
And I knew if you had your chance
That you would make those Iraqi's dance
And maybe, You'd be happy for a while
But November coming made you shiver
With every lie you'd deliver
Bad news on the White House door step
You couldn't take one more step
You can't remember if you cried
When you read about David Kelly's widowed bride
Something touched you when Tony Blair lied
The day, part of America died, so

Bye bye Miss American Lie
Invaded Baghdad for your Dad
But Baghdad had nothing to hide
And them good oil boys
Were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that you'll lie
This'll be another day that you'll lie

Did you write that speech in stone
And do you have faith in oil alone
If the DOD tells you so
Now do you believe in death and war
Can oil save your corporate whores
And can you teach me
How to lie real slow
Well I know that you're into lies and spin
'Cause I saw you dancin' in the UN
Colin Powell kicked off your war
Then they bombed those Iraqi's some more
You were a lonely chickenhawk malcontent
With a yellow streak and a Daddy who was President
But you knew you were out of luck
The day, part of America died,
I started singing

Bye bye Miss American Lie
Invaded Baghdad for your Dad
But Baghdad had nothing to hide
And them good oil boys
Were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that you'll lie
This'll be another day that you'll lie

Now for three years you've been on your own
And the oil won't flow under those damn Iraqi stones
But that's not how it was meant to be
When Tony Blair sang for the king and queen
In a voice he borrowed from one of your mescaline dreams
And a voice that came from Cheyney and Condolee
Oh and while the Queen was looking down
The BBC placed on Blair a thorny crown
The courtroom was adjourned
No verdict was returned
And while Rumsfeld read a book on Marx
A stealth fighter left cluster bombs in a child's park
And Wolfowitz invented stories in the dark
The day, part of America died,
We were singin'

Bye bye Miss American Lie
Invaded Baghdad for your Dad
But Baghdad had nothing to hide
And them good oil boys
Were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that you'll lie
This'll be another day that you'll lie

Helter Skelter in a summer swelter
The Boys were dyin' without a protective shelter
A hundred thousand strong and fallin'fast
Dyin' senselessly for your lyin' ass.
The Army tried for a homebound pass
But you had Haliburton on the sidelines cast
Now the half-time air was DU dust perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune
You all got up to prance
But you never got a chance
'Cause Brown and Root tried to take the field
The damn Iraqi's refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed
The day, part of America died,
We started singing

Bye bye Miss American Lie
Invaded Baghdad for your Dad
But Baghdad had nothing to hide
And them good oil boys
Were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that you'll lie
This'll be another day that you'll lie

And there they were all in one place
A generation of sheep lost in space
With no time left to change their minds
So come on Duyba be nimble
Dubya be quick, stop the killing lickety split
'Cause oil is the Presidency's only friend
And as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in hell
could break that Satan's spell
And as the oil rig flames climbed high intothe Iraqi night
To light the sacrificial rite
I saw satan laughing with delight
The day, part of America died,
they were singin',

Bye bye Miss American Lie
Invaded Baghdad for your Dad
But Baghdad had nothing to hide
Them good oil boys
Were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that you'll lie
This'll be another day that you'll lie

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the men there said
The music wouldn't play
But in Iraq the children screamed
The mothers cried and our soldiers dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The air raid sirens all were broken
And the three men I admire most
The father, son and holy ghost
They didn't tell you to bomb and boast
The day, part of America died
And they were singing

Bye bye Miss American Lie
Invaded Baghdad for your Dad
But Baghdad had nothing to hide
And them good oil boys
Were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that you'll lie
This'll be another day that you'll lie

A few too many syllables in places, but written with feeling...

A terrible job of expressing the truth. Great idea, poor execution. Keep trying, because you know Our Fearless Appointed Leader With a Purpose loves executions.

Just to make it better, saying 'Big American lie' rather than 'miss american lie' would have been better.
