I remember when I was driving to school on April Fools Day my senior year (all of 9 years ago). When I came to a stop at the light down the street I heard a huge bump and I freaked out because it sounded like a body and their was an odor with it, I opened my trunk right then and there--and it was bad bread and a bowling ball, which my mom died laughing about when I got home before I even said anything, my mom's a mischievous woman. . .I love April Fools

Zillion covers, but DF's didn't chart at all in the UK, nor in the US Pop chart, just #3 in the "Elevator Music" category (adult contemporary.)

It's often a question of which band to credit a multiple-covered song, but when one band was overwhelmingly responsible for bringing it to the public's ears, *and wrote it*, I'd go there. I realize that The Cascades were before your time, but two minutes on Wikipedia would have produced all of the above (as it just did).

This isn't a rating category, just personal opinion, but one hates to see the band who wrote it and made it a hit (not always the same) slighted for a modestly-successful cover. Sometimes, it's the other way around: Gene Pitney both wrote *and* recorded "Hello, Mary Lou" (Good-bye, Heart"), but it went nowhere. Ricky Nelson is irrevocably associated with it, for making it a hit. IMHO - YMMY. However, the covers prove that in fact, the pioneers of R'n'R are so classic that they're still being re-done even today --- proving their worth.

Ditto FG on the pacing, which is not surprising, as I believe she's read TT's Tips To Perfect Parody Pacing. Any chance you might? You're a funny guy and a talented writer; really don't like seeing these easy-to-fix glitches and having to deduct. Cheers.

Thanks for the comment TT. I found out on Wikipedia that The Cascades originally did the song, but Dan Fogelberg's one is the only one I've ever heard and the lyrics are slightly different so I decided to do this parody to that one. I try to get pacing completely correct, but personally don't mind if a line or two here and there is a little off.
