The Lyrics

Well, this is my 25th posting, so I was looking for an appropriate song. I think this one fits.
4 + 20 songs ago
I posted on this site
Didn't know how I'd do
But I thought that I would try
It inspired me, for sure
Wasn't really hard to write them anymore
Now I spend way too much time thinking up more

A different kind of parody seems the way to go
Write and then I re-write, I proof-read them
'Cause I want to know
How does the pacing go?
It is really very funny?
Will the song they know?
Does the rhyming fit OK?
Does it flow?

Scoring wasn't too high
When I looked in on the site
The comments that I read there
Made me shake my head and heave a sigh
I rephrased six of my lines at least
I threw nearly every word out
It's a different piece
And I tell myself it's worth it
I'll get "4's" for this at least

Johnny D - Thank you! It's been fun so far. I've been somewhere between half and totally nuts this week. I may have to gear down a couple days (not just on parodies, EVERYTHING).

Welcome to the "upper crust" Paul! Oh, good song too! ;-)

Leah, Thanks, I'm certainly feeling "crusty" enough these days, so I guess I belong.

Paul - a clever yet simple parody and based on a great song

Peregrin - Thanks. I didn't see that anyone else had ever done anything off the original, either. So I thought it was a good choice. Of course we've reached a point in time when it appears many folks under 50 have no familiarity with any CSN songs from their first two albums except a couple of the Graham Nash numbers that got a lot of play. Can I be that old? The people I was hanging out with back then played those albums until the vinyl wore out. Yeah, and then we walked 5 miles to school and then back, uphill both ways. You whippersnappers, eh, sonny...what did I just say?

Alvin - thanks...after I had posted about 15 or so parodies I started thinking about creating a "theme" parody for when I got to #25. This song title popped into me head and once I started writing it the words flowed out pretty quickly. I still spent a fair bit of time getting everything to read and flow the way the original did, and of course, Proof-Reading (you really don't want to write a parody about how you write parodies and have any stupid spelling or editing errors in it). I really liked the way it sounds to sing it with the original, and the bonus of that is that this version is not nearly as dreadfully depressing as Stephen Stills' "4 +20" is. I mean, Jeez, his final line is "And I find myself just wishing that my life would simply cease." That's a far cry more serious than being concerned that your parody might get some votes under "4". Still, Stills' is one of my favorite songwriter's and the man really can play and sing the country blue. Thanks for you vote and comment...
