Parody Song Title:

"Goin' Out of My Gourd"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Havin' fun in Illinois
Watch the corn grow, Oh boy!
Stared at the sun, 'til I blinked, upped my score!
Watched some fat guy sweatin',
It was fascinatin'

Woo, hoo, hoo! Goin' out of my gourd!

Pass time observin' paint peel,
Plants grow or a scab heal
Then connect the dandelion
Dots, out on the lawn
Pick the fleas off Rover
Humming with the mower

Woo hoo hoo! Goin' out of my gourd!

Watch the car go by and then
I'll "magnifry" some ants
Maybe swat some flies
With my tennis shoe...
Whoopdie do!
Scratch it or keep itchin'?
It's such a big decision.

Woo hoo hoo! Goin' out of my gourd!

(break)

Watch the car go by and then
I'll "magnifry" some ants
Maybe swat some flies
With my tennis shoe...
Whoopdie do!
Pop some bubbly tar or
Just save it for tomorrow

Woo hoo hoo! Goin' out of my gourd!

(break)

This is central Illinois
Watch the corn grow, Oh boy!
Stunning lack of natural features
Stretches on and on
Nothing new so far so
Expect the same tomorrow

Woo hoo hoo! Goin' out of my gourd!

I'll "magnifry" some ants Love it. This song has been done to death but I believe you are the first to actually say anything about Illinois in this parody. I actually lived in the midwest for a few years (Neb - Iowa) and you do describe the summer scene accurately. A fresh twist to a popular parody number earns my respect and 5s. Well done.

Thanks Guy, Billy, Wild Man (Hey, hey! Mas Chalupas!) and Pat. Pat, nah... I manage to keep myself occupied. ;)

Funny! Good expressive lyrics, evoking a 'scene' anyone who hasn't been stuck in megapolsis all their life can relate to. Loved it!

I like this one, and for some reason, got a big kick out of singing "Watched some fat guy sweatin', it was fascin-et-in'"

Fun to watch and fun to sing, it's the perfect hobby. (Ok, maybe not.) Thanks Rick!

Another hit, Melhi! (Too bad I don't recognise some of the songs you've parodied in the past - this could go on for a month!)

Thanks AussieBullDog! Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks, too, for being a big part of making this week so much fun... and same goes to the rest of you who stopped in and checked out my stuff, this week. You've all been so great and it was really nice of you to make a little extra time to read and rate some of my older stuff! :) It's especially great seeing some of the parodies that slipped under the radar, back when I submitted them getting noticed, now. I hope the next vict... er... honoree has as much fun as I've had. :)

I'll never again be able to listen to the Creedence version without singin' yours. I too, enjoyed the "magnifryin' ants", but for pure rural entertainment, we used to "a-salt slugs", and watch 'em foam. Yep, life on the farm was kinda laid-back.

HAW !! This is hilarious....555
Melhi - December 06, 2003 - Report this comment
Thanks David and Johnny D! David, oh yeah, I've "a-salted' many a slug, (I like that) in my day, too! :D

I like this one enough to have stolen - er, borrowed - from it for one of mine. (Please drop the suit, Mel. I'm begging you.)
Melhi - June 10, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Jack and Spaff! (Putting the chicken suit on the floor, backing away slowly) There you go Spaff, wear it in good health... you didn't have to get all weird about it, you could've just asked. ;)

First of all, I can't believe I never commented on this one; actually I could've sworn I had. Maybe someone magnifried my brain. Second, great stuff throughout; for some reason this time the "Stunning lack of natural features" bit struck me as particularly good. Third, it really needs a line like "alien invaders--wait that's just cicaders" right now. And finally, your chicken suit joke had me rolling.
Melhi - June 11, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Claude! No cicadas here, yet -- leastwise, not the seventeen year variety -- all of Illinois is counting on you (yes, just you Claude) to hold them in Indiana... especially now that we had to give Spaff the chicken suit (which we had hoped would scare the critters back over the border.) ;)

Hehe... there seems to be a strangely high proportion of genius in the 'g' songs than elsewhere. Almost every song I've seen so far has gone on my list of possible votes, including this one. Geez. Anyway, 5'd.
Melhi - June 12, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Merry (who is officially my favorite person, today. ;) ) & Neminem! Neminem, I know what you mean!! Reading through the entries was a blast, but choosing between them was torture and then I had just as tough of a time with the May SOTM.

Excellent parody. I liked the "decision" couplet.

(ABC) Melhi, Great job! 5-5-5. This one pre-dates my days here on the site so I had never seen it before. That one of the fun things about this contest. Don't know if you saw mine to this song, "Countin' Spots on The Floor", which I put up around the end of December this last year - if not you might be amused if you take a gander. Reading yours here I can't help but think that your character might have been the younger version of my character.

Very funny song! Great job!
Melhi - June 13, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks John, Paul and Jeff! Paul, I do remember that one of yours - I liked it very much and it didn't strike me at the time, but now that you mention it, they do sound like they could be about the same person, yours picking up a few years after mine leaves off! Cool!

Thanks for the chicken suit, Mel. And wow - I sure wish everyone would fulfill my apparel-removal requests that willingly.
