Somebody -- I won't dignify him/her/it by naming him/her/it -- said he/she/it didn't think most Americans knew who Keith Olbermann is. Is he/she/it kidding? Everyone who watched ESPN's "SportsCenter" in the 1990s knows who Olbermann is! Now he hosts "Countdown," at 8 PM on MSNBC, where he tells the truths about the right wing's lies. And also has some fun topics. One of his bits is something he admits he "borrowed" from the old "Bob & Ray" radio show. (Bob Elliott is the father of comedian-actor Chris Elliott, and Bob and the late Ray Goulding both knew Keith from being big baseball fans -- Boston Red Sox fans.) Keith says in his recent book of the same title, "Of course, these aren't REALLY the worst people in the world." He makes excpetions for bloodthirsty dictators, which is why he (almost) never names George W. Bush. His usual targets are "dumb criminals" (hardly an original target); people unknown to most of us who make the news for doing petty, even cruel things and then disappear from our consciousness; and politicians who tell gross, even hypocritical lies, and their willing accomplices in the media who do the same. His most frequent "Worst Person"? Bill O'Reilly of the Fox Noise Channel. The bit is supposed to be funny occasionally. But the things O'Really has done lately, like blame victims of pedophilia and apartment fires for their own suffering, aren't funny anymore.
