The Lyrics

This parody is not autobiographical, and is another of my early parodies that I found when I was cleaning out my old place while preparing for my big move.
(Spoken)
How you doin' out there?
Ya ever seem to have one of those days
Where it just seems like you’re always really, really late?
To school or to your low-payin’ part-time job
Well, ya know, I used to have 'em just about every day
But I found a way to get out of 'em
Let me tell ya ‘bout it!

Sitting in my old car, ‘bout an hour late
Stuck by the railroad, goin’ by’s a freight
The freight train passed, knew what I’d do
I'm gonna haul my *ss to my high school

Speedin’ in the school zone
Speedin’ through the school zone
Now, copper, don't you write me up a tick-et
But everybody knows that speedin’ ain't allowed near school

Drivin’ down the road, makin' sure there ain’t no cops
Look at the rear-view mirror, "No, there ain't nobody here"
My old Bonneville, it ain’t got no vim
But I could surely burn the tires off the rims

Speedin’ in the school zone
Speedin’ through the school zone
The cop, he done up and wrote a ticket
He told me real stern, that speedin’ ain't allowed near school

(Instrumental break)

Oh, crap!

Judge put me to work, on the sheriff road crew
Cracked up rocks, and I got bored
The sheriff was lookin' for me all around
But he didn’t know where I was bound

Speedin’ in the school zone (Yes indeed, I was)
Speedin’ in the school zone (Now, copper, don't you tell me I broke my parole)
But now I know I’m headed back to a jail cell nice and cold

(Spoken)
One more!

Speedin’ in the school zone
No speedin’ in the school zone
Speedin’ in the school zone
Speedin’ in the school zone
Now, copper, I am fully aware of the rules
And now I truly know that speedin' ain't allowed near school!

Don't say I didn't warn you if you get a ticket or get arrested while speeding near a school! :-)

Thanks Guy... I was wondering if ChuckyG took Columbus Day off (he deserves as many holidays as he can get IMHO), or if the new-entry dealio malfunctioned. Looks like the latter of the two is the case. And to whoever left the 5s, thank you very much.

Andria - I left the 5s on everyones parody when I posted the comment. I got the horse before the cart and emailed ChuckyG after I posted all the comments. He snapped his fingers and fixed it and got back to me really quickly to tell me that he missed running the script that updated the "New Entries". Hope I don't look too foolish with all my ALERT comments.

Hey, friend! Nice to see you writing again! This is such a funny parody. I'd be tempted to speed in the school zone, too! The only speeding I did in school property is running down the halls, so the hall monitor caught me big time! You had been speeding 555 mph!!

Thanks again, Guy... I figured it was you, being the nice person you are, but then again, I wasn't 100% sure, and thanks for clarifying it (I hoped it wasn't a troll of some sort ;-) ), and thanks Christie. I admit to running through the halls in school, and to sliding down the hallway running down the middle of a dorm on a slick of Crisco Oil in college as a hazing stunt, but I never sped in school zones.

Andria - This is the reason that I wrote "Cops'll Getcha". See, what'd I say? I liked the vim/rims couplet best. Nice write and well worth my time to read it and sing along.

Hard to not speed in the school zone, unless you're on a bicycle.
DJ Blaze - October 12, 2009 - Report this comment
Very nice job here! This almost makes me afraid to get my license (while normally I've been enthusiastic about it)! 555

Busted...for going 5-5-5! ;D

Thanks again Guy, I got the message, and the vim/rims couplet took quite a bit of time to come up with IIRC, and I'm glad you liked it, thanks T1K, I've even heard of someone going over 20mph (the maximum school-zone speed in my jurisdiction) on a bicycle once or twice, thanks for V&C, thanks DJ, you should go ahead and get your license, I didn't intend to scare you away from it, and thanks OMR... only place I can think of where one could go 555mph on land is in land-speed record events with a special car.

i can't drive 55 but i can give you 555
Andria - October 13, 2009 - Report this comment
Thanks, Alvin, lol. You gave me the inspiration to possibly parody "I Can't Drive 55" by Sammy Hagar, btw.

I avoid school zones whenever possible, but I'm glad I didn't avoid your parody. $555 fine for multiple offenses.

My minor peeve is the non-rhyme of "ticket" and "school" in the choruses. What else could have been done to "There ain't nobody here!" ?

(ABC S/T) Nice to read your satire again! Can't seem to get enough of this song! Great as always!

Similar complaint to Agri's, love the idea, unfortunately this OS didn't give you enough to work with (though I love TOS--despite being a non-smoker--I bet Lady GaGa LOVES this song with her insistence on putting cigarette in pretty much every song she does). . .good job overall

Andria - I still laugh at that "vim" / "rims" couplet as I re-read this little gem. (See comments above) But the old Bonneville did have its share of vim for sure unless it was beat to death. Too bad they don't make 'em like they used to, but I am sure the same will be said about your parody when this one gets to be as classic as the Bonneville is now. "Yep", they'll say, "they don't write 'em like they used to", and then your name will be mentioned. I always like your style. Keep up the top notch writing, girl friend.

ABC (ST): Nice work! Living near an elementary school where parents speed their kids off to school everyday helped me realize how good this parody is! Nice job!
Matthias - October 15, 2010 - Report this comment
I can totally relate to this one. I hate being stuck behind a school bus while they're doing their rounds because they need to stop wait for the kid (who might not even be ready) holding up the traffic and when I'm already running late it makes things even worse (and you're always able to be stuck behind one when you are running late)
bobpiecheese - October 15, 2010 - Report this comment
(ABC5) Gotta say, never heard of the "don't speed near a school" rule. Maybe that's because the only school I've been to had the entrance in the back streets, and speeding in there is generally a bloody stupid thing to do. Not that this diminished the parody in any way, of course. 555 for you!
