The Lyrics

Robert Keeshan passed away
He was Captain Kangaroo,
And his TV show
It touched even me and you
It had a broad cast of characters
A grandfather clock,
Look at kids TV today
It is such a crock.

Mr. Moose, Bunny Rabbit
They would never stall,
'Cause they were too busy watchin'
Those tennis balls fall.
There was Mr. Green Jeans
For everyone to see,
Robert Keeshan left us a
Great legacy.

Bye, Captain, Bye
We'll miss you very much,
I remember your show
It had a gentle touch.
Bye, Captain, Bye
We'll miss you very much,
Now we're stuck with Barney
and Teletubbies and such.

(Instrumental)

Robert Keeshan passed away
He was Captain Kangaroo,
His TV show
It touched even me and you
It had a broad cast of characters
A grandfather clock,
Look at kids TV today
It is such a crock.

Bye, Captain, Bye
We'll miss you very much,
I remember your show
It had a gentle touch.
Bye, Captain, Bye
We'll miss you very much,
Now we're stuck with Barney
and Teletubbies and such.
Bye, Captain, Bye
We'll miss you very much,
I remember your show
It had a gentle touch.

Sweet.

Yeah - Barney and Teletubbies could not even get close to the class that was the Captain. Well done.

Tim - Very nice job here. Well done. I made some lenghty comments on another Capt. Kangaroo parody yesterday and all the same remarks apply here so I'll give all the Sunday reader's here a small break and end this comment here. 5-5-5. Wish I could remember the title to give a direct reference...

Tim, et al., Nope, I just didn't feel right not at least giving the reference so here it is: Yesterday's very fine Capt. Kangaroo tribute was "Shari, the Captain and Fred (A tribute)" Parody by Stray Pooch", based on Dion's memorable "Abraham, Martin & John". There, I feel better now. Except I have to wait about 3 more minutes to click "Submit" or risk getting cited by this site's "Twit Police". But hey, I'm on a roll of "doing the right thing" this morning; had by fiber, had my health drink (or "sludge" as we call it here) and refrained from the use of multiple-expletive remarks while reading the National news in the local Sunday paper. (I consider "Singular-expletive" remarks ok in this area, that mean I can't string them together consecutively but can still have multiple in the overall rant.) So the only negative is that the Sunday reader's didn't really get spared at all, in fact they end up with almost 2 full doses instead. Well that kills the "5 minute" waiting period so here goes....thanks...

Tim, great song. I, too, miss the Captain and the days when children's television allowed us to actually be children. PS: Thanks for the plug, Paul!
