 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Billy Joel

Parody Song Title:

"Hit 'em High and Far"

Parody Written by:

Michael Pacholek

The Lyrics

"The pitch, swung on, and it's driven to deep right field! It is high! It is far! It is... GONE!" -- home run call of New York Yankees broadcaster John Sterling. The original version of this song came out around the time of the 1977 World Series, when BJ's Yankees (and mine) ended a 15-year title drought.
(instrumental opening)

Don't go changing
your stance of batting.
Your average is three-twenty-four.
Mm-hm-hm.
I don't imagine
your awesome statting
will let us lose games anymore.

I know you bring those
pitchers some trouble
when they exit the bullpen car.
Mm-hm-hm.
When you are swinging
you leave us singing.
Those balls, you hit 'em high and far.

The hanging curveball
how well you handle.
You hit it to the upper deck.
Mm-hm-hm.
Bat-speed of Mays and
power of Mantle.
The pitcher twists, and hurts his neck.

And on the mound there's
conversation
about how facing you is hard.
Mm-hm-hm.
You're not the someone
they want to throw to.
Those balls, you hit 'em high and far.

I need to know that you are going to be
October slugger that we hoped.
Ah, but what will it take until we all can see
You're not steroided, you're not doped?

I said we're winning.
I hope forever.
We hitched our wagon to your star.
Mm-hm-hm.
We win in summer.
In fall is better.
Those balls, you hit 'em high and far.
Right!

(instrumental break)

And on the mound there's
conversation
about how facing you is hard.
Mm-hm-hm.

You're not the someone
they want to throw to.
Those balls, you hit 'em high and far!

(instrumental break)
By the way, on October 2, 1978, when the Yankees won the Playoff game in Boston on Bucky Dent's home run, you know where Billy Joel was? In Boston, to give a concert at the Boston Garden that night. I'm not making that up.

I still remember Reggie hitting homers on 3 consecutive pitches against Hough ( I think) .If A-Fraud hit like Jackson did in the playoffs, he'd OWN New York.

Alvin: Being a Dodger fan, you must remember what Reggie did. If not, how about Kirk Gibson? Dee: The first was off Burt Hooton, the second Elias Sosa, the last Hough, and who else ever drove a knuckleball 475 feet to dead center field?
