The Lyrics

In which two songs with a common girl's name come together. This is the first time I've done a Manilow song. I hope it will be the last. This won't make sense, of course, if you don't know "Lola" by the Kinks. But just remember, unlike the Copa's Lola, as Gwen Verdon taught us, "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets."
Her name was Lola, she was a club girl
Every night she'd go in there, and she'd shake her derriere
And then Ray Davies, the Kink band's leader
Way back in nineteen sixty-nine, he thought she was looking fine
They danced around the floor, until the clock struck four
And now Ray is sure this girl is gonna let him score!

But this girl had... hidden banana
A big shock inside Ray's pajamas
Yeah, the girl had... hidden banana
Music and passion blinded Ray to fashion
That this girl had...
Wrong kind of love.

His name was Raymond, he played some guitar
He was a well-respected man in his rockin' British band
Invented metal, no, that's his brother
And when he saw her standing there, Lola was beyond compare
And he was so enthused, but soon became confused
He had no idea that his ego, it would soon be bruised!

'Cause this girl had... hidden banana
A big shock inside Ray's pajamas
Yeah, the girl had... hidden banana
Music and passion blinded Ray to fashion
That this girl had...
Wrong kind of love.

(instrumental break)

Her name is Lola, she was a club girl
But that was 35 years past for this gender-bending lass.
Now it's a Starbuck's, but not for Lola
And when that Kink record comes on
She thinks, Damn, my Ray is gone
A drag queen in a bind, she drinks herself half-blind
She lost her youth and she lost Ray Davies
Now she's lost her mind!

And this girl had... hidden banana
A big shock inside Ray's pajamas
Yeah, the girl had... hidden banana
Music and passion blinded Ray to fashion
That this girl had...
Wrong kind of love.
(Lola...)
Wrong kind of love.
(Hidden banana...)
Could be worse: At least my "Goalie" didn't have a "banana blade." (Hockey joke.)

Geez, had no idea Lola was about a gender-bender. Kinky. Gotta give that a listen. Anyway, great parody idea. Nicely done.

*Grabs "derriere" to look it up. Get the feeling it might come in hand(y)*. The word, that is. :-)

Thank you, everyone. I wasn't sure this would get past the blue pencil, but looks like we made it.
