The Lyrics

About a year ago, I wrote "Of Course, I've No Blame." Since then, Georgie Bush has gone from 51 percent to 33 percent. It only took a hurricane destroying New Orleans while he did nothing, another thousand dead soldiers in Iraq with no end in sight, nearly giving our ports to a terrorist monarchy, another $100 billion in deficit and his Vice President shooting a friend. That's all. "Lame Duck": An elected official who has lost a re-election or who did not seek re-relection, but continues to hold office in between the time of the election and the time of the inauguration of the successor. It can also refer to one, especially a "President" in his second term, ineligible to seek re-election, who is unable to do much due to having thrown away his political capital and is just coasting until the day he leaves office.
(instrumental opening)

In the first part of the journey
he told us the walk would be cake.
It's been three long years and we're still stuck there
thanks to President who's so fake.
And old Dick Cheney said insurgency
was in its final throes.
But like other things he's got, that's shot.
I guess that's the way that it goes.

And we're stuck in the desert thanks to duck that's so lame.
Counting down the days left in his reign.
In the desert, our soldiers cursing his name
'cause they don't know why they will suffer such pain.

Ba-da, da, da-da-da-da.
Ba-da-da, da, da.
Ba-da, da, da-da-da-da.
Ba-da-da, da, da.

After two years in the desert sun
the States began to turn red.
After three years with that desert bum
I was looking at lies he said.
And to think we could have had Al Gore
or John Kerry instead.

And we're stuck in the desert thanks to duck that's so lame.
Counting down the days left in his reign.
In the desert, our soldiers cursing his name
'cause they don't know why they will suffer such pain.

Ba-da, da, da-da-da-da.
Ba-da-da, da, da.
Ba-da, da, da-da-da-da.
Ba-da-da, da, da.

(instrumental break)

After oh-nine then, we're finally be free
of the liars of G.O.P.
There'll be men who know how to run this land
who use eyes and minds to see.
The motion of the Bush team has us into the ground
and we shoulda gave them a shove.
In New York City, there's still a hole downtown
from the day he sat on his duff.

And we're stuck in the desert thanks to duck that's so lame.
Counting down the days left in his reign.
In the desert, our soldiers cursing his name
'cause they don't know why they will suffer such pain.

Ba-da, da, da-da-da-da.
Ba-da-da, da, da.
Ba-da, da, da-da-da-da.
Ba-da-da, da, da.
Ba-da, da, da-da-da-da.
Ba-da-da, da, da.
(repeat 'til fade)
I know there are a lot of people on this site who hate the original song. And there are a few who think Bush is a good, honest, honorable man and a great President and I shouldn't bash him. To both, I say, as Ernie Keebler said to the Pillsbury Doughboy, "Tough cookies."

I apologize to Michael Pacholek, John Barry, and everyone else here. I realize that free speech is what separates us from Communists, Nazis, etc. I enjoy using my right of free speech here. I will start shoowing the same respect for others too. I hope I can be forgiven.

"hate the OS"? Inane OSs deserve sendups even more than good ones. This OS gave ya good material - "desert", "rain"-"reign" (excellent) and was well used. 555

BTW, vaguely remember reading that OS was autobiographical, from group's first US visit and first train ride ("Iron Horse" with no name), from East Coast to West -- through the desert, to the ocean -- Los Angeles, I think. --- TT

You might remember, John, that William Tong turned "Under the Boardwalk" into "Bungled the Cakewalk." The parody was OK, the title was priceless, the inspiration too damn costly for our country.

Hate TOS, yes, you already know that. Almost all parodies of this song get straight 5s from me (including this one) regardless of subject matter, pacing, etc. As for the second sentence in your bottom comment, I'm not one of them.

Very cool...and funny....but doesn't typing "ba-da-da" etc. get old??

I like the original song. I caught the end of an America concert right after seeing a John Mayer concert (it was a big music festival), and their closer was this one. Anyway, well written and good parody, 555's

I've tracked down an english version of something I saw in the news the other day, I'm guessing you'll enjoy it: news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060318/ap_on_en_ot/patriot_act_game

Linda, the God I do believe in will pass judgment on Bush. Al Gore would have had Osama bin Laden dead by the New Year. John Kerry would have had Iraqi troops trained to do what American troops can't seem to do under their current leadership, which is prevent a civil war. We could have begun reducing U.S. troop levels by 2006 and had only a token presence by 2007. And how's democracy working out in Afghanistan, by the way? About as well as it's working in Iraq, apparently. As for blowhard showoffs and how long they prosper, it turns out to have been four years, from September 2001 to September 2005. As The American Prospect magazine put it, we're stuck with the guy until January 2009, but "The 9/11 Presidency is over." He no longer gets the benefit of the doubt, and we've got the doubt of his benefits. He's at 33 percent, and at his lowest point, Bill Clinton was wildly popular by comparison. In the immortal words of Winona Ryder, "Lick it up, baby, lick it up!" Reality bites... both you and Bush.
