Song Parodies -> "Xenophobe"

Original Song Title:

"Waterloo"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Abba

Parody Song Title:

"Xenophobe"

Parody Written by:

Guy DiRito

The Lyrics

Xenophobe defined:

NOUN

Xenophobe (plural xenophobes)

One who fears that which is unknown; one who fears people who are different from oneself.

I was once called a "xenophobe" in the comments section of a parody that I authored in my early days of writing. I probably deserved it. Never heard the term before that comment. I went to onelook.com and looked up it's meaning. It was a good day - I learned a new word!

Youtube HERE to watch a Youtube performance of "Waterloo" performed by Abba.

Implied, that xenophobe's a Freudian slip mind bender,
Oh yeah - and I don't feel no empathy in no particular way.
Hysterically so, I need help,
I fear everything but myself.

Rubber room - Maybe I've needed a psycho ward,
What a loon - Noises I'm hearing can't be ignored
Movies blue - Things that debase I so bid adieu,
Out of view - Hiding my face from a spy like you.
Oh-wo-wo-wo xenophobe - I fear a tazing is overdue.

Oh my, I have been told I'm whacked; a self fear monger,
Oh yeah, my wildest dreams only enhance my giving into fright.
Paranoid I never would be,
But everyone's out to get me.

Porta-loo - I can't be seated, there's germs galore,
Looney tunes - calmness as subtle as civil war.
Messy goo - Gotta escape it; don't want the flu,
Woozy-woo - A pill to sedate just to get me through.
Xenophobe - Finding me pacing, I feel so screwed.

Got any drugs I could use?
I'll mix 'em and binge out on booze.

What to do? - Phone calls are taped; I'm a wanted dude,
Skip the loo - Going to skate where I can't be viewed.
Oh-wo-wo-wo xenophobe - Mindfully casing each avenue.

Oo oo-oo oo oo

Nuttin' knew - Knowing my fate I will be so screwed,
Oh-wo-wo-wo xenophobe - Never quite knowing what's safe or true.

(Wo-wo-wo Punctuated Fade Out)

And I thought it was someone who feared Xenon. That's a gas right? This parody was a gas... :-)

Congrats on the title--surely a first. I have a terrible fear of hearing ABBA's music.

Xenophobe? "Please explain"! Aussie in-joke, Guy, Mandamoo and Stu will understand it! The rest of you - not enough room to explain! This comes under the 'why didn't I think of that' category :) Well done Guy, a fine work.

Merry - That would be xenonophobia but it is unlikely that anyone would fear it since it is considered to be inert. But I will agree with you that both the parody and the element are as you say a gas. Muchas gassiness.

JB - I didn't consider it a first - I just needed something for the ABC4X round of comps on the message board.. I only have out of my 830 something parodies one other parody that starts with "X" and it took a bronze in the X round a few years back.

Alvin - Yeah - I know about you and your fancy for things "Psycho" - you infected me you psycho-semantic parody writer, you.

Yeah - It does help one learn to laugh. Thanks.

Pip - If you get time email to me what "Please explain" is to the Aussies that I don't get - that is if you can do it in 100 words or less. I don't want to overburden you with too much typing. You have perked my interest. Thanks for the plus feedback.

SOTM-X Yes I know I am not participating this round, but if I did, here is my Comment:

Its really good. I echo AFW's comment
Agrimorfee - July 30, 2008 - Report this comment
(ABC) It's a little iffy to rhyme the "obe" of the title with the rest of the "oo" words, but this was inventive throughout (especially on the verses).
Red Ant - July 31, 2008 - Report this comment
I must have been living under a rock as I thought there was more to being xenophobic than what you found, so I looked it up as well. "Xenophobe: one with a mortal fear of being anally penetrated by an extra-terrestrial.". Whoops, maybe I should turn my filters on once in a while. Quite well done considering the limited nature of the topic, and fine rhyming.

Jack - I found that exact definition but decided against adding it to the definition in the top comments. And yes I am fearful of an alien doing that to me or anyone else for that matter. I guess I'm part xenophobe myself , or at least very health conscious, as I was once called in the comments of a parody I wrote that was on the unflattering side. Thanks for commenting and voting in the (X) round even though you had no stake in it. You are a good sport, friend.

(ABC4) loved all the waterloo subs, Guy, esp. porta-loo, messy goo, woozy woo - and a very clever idea with great pacing - 555

This was great, but Red Ant's definition is the one that I original found about this word as well, and well... That would make for a great parody topic as well. This was a great parody though, one of your best for sure.

Stu & Matt - Thanks for the boost. I thought the parody was a bit "iffy", but you guys contradict my assessment of it.
Dr Music - August 06, 2008 - Report this comment
Here's another boost for you. You're going to get a lot of 5's on this one. I wish there was more than 5 to rate this but sadly our voting system only goes up to 5. Great stuff though, reminds me of an old friend of ours.

Great job guy. I also loved the "Waterloo" subs with the punch-line answers.
I looked-up "xenophobe" in my dictionary (I am the worlds worst speller and always keep it handy) and the definition was "one who strongly dislikes foreigners"...strange...
Below Average Dave - August 06, 2008 - Report this comment
Very creative Guy, the idea was really creative, my only problem is you choose to change up waterloo in all the lines to rhymes, which made Xenophobe sound off when singing, but nonetheless very unique.
Dr Music - August 06, 2008 - Report this comment
You're not afraid of getting more 5's are you, pal? I hope not, because i'm going to give you more 5's than last time.
Guy - August 06, 2008 - Report this comment
IB - I also saw that definition about a dislike for foreigners. It also said it could mean a bigoted person. I had a buck 2-80 definition for it before submission with all these descriptions included, but I thought it was a bit much. I think it basically means that it is someone who fears everything - but that was how the comment came across on the parody where I was called a xenophobe. I can't remember which parody it was of mine with that comment but it was in my early days of writing and it was probably a right winged leaner of a parody. Thanks for weighing in.

BAD - I knew that it was ackward to use "xenophobe" in place of "waterloo" but I only used it at the last line of each verse. Obviously I wrote the parody for the ABC4X round of comps. You would be way more sensitive to the awkwardness since you record and I don't. Noneheless I did realize that it is awkward, but as you so kindly put it, unique. Thanks BAD.

Dr. Music - Thanks for the double comment on this. And I can't imagine who the old friend is that this reminds you of.
Dr Music - August 07, 2008 - Report this comment
The old friend we're refering to is our spanish penpal Manuelo. This song reminds us of him.
