Song Parodies -> "Sunday Will Never Be The Same"

Original Song Title:

"Monday, Monday"

Original Performer:

The Mamas & The Papas

Parody Song Title:

"Sunday Will Never Be The Same"

Parody Written by:

Tommy Turtle

The Lyrics

Move over, Chuck Norris and your Octagon™ .... Go away (far, *far* away, like, maybe, Siberia), Octomom. Make way for (drum roll) ... The OCTOSMOOSH!

(The academic discussion of what is TOS group's correct name, and why, was mercifully put in the outro, so we could get right to the song. You all owe me. ;) ... Nice original-recording OS video here.

Song being reworked: "Sunday Will Never Be The Same".

(Sun-day, Sunday morning)
(Fun day, then, no warning:)
(Bum day, now, I'm mourning)

Sunday, Sunday
We'd meet at park
Walk together
Hand in hand, until it was dark

One Sunday mornin'
Sunlight dawning
But apparent-ly
You, I'm not seeing
No one waits - out here for me

Sunday, "Hon" day?   [1]
You've gone away
No bright-song-day
Sunday: no longer special day

No mid-day storrmin'
You made me feel warm and --
-- So fuzzy inside
Oh, Sunday, one day,
Just cold, gray ash; the embers died

End of ev'ry week (company, I'd seek) Walking by the creek
Softly, words we'd speak of our love so fine, yeah
Now, whenever Sunday comes (lonely; air guitaring, strums)
Sit 'n twiddl-ing my thumbs
You can find me sighin'
Almost a crime

Walking pathways
No more, we two
Not the same, now
Watch rain fall; skies cloudy, not blue

Oh, Sunday mornin'
Love was sworn in
Now, you're absentee
You've left me grievin'
Chill, not thrill, unhap-pily

Watching children play (pigeon-food, purvey), Warming is sun-ray
Told me you would stay; words bespeak you're mine, yeah
Then I lost my Sunday mate (breaking ev'ry Sunday date)
Nothing on my Sunday plate
So were you just lyin'?
Guess I'm resigned...

Sunday: stun day
A busted day
Fun-not-done day
It's all in disarray
Whoa, Sunday? Shun day
Can't, pain, allay
Come-undone-day
My dear says, "Nay"
Oh, Sunday, Sunday
Oh, come again: pray....

(hopes fade as song does)

[1] Hey, TT gave everyone a break in the intro. Please return the favor by skipping the Korean car jokes, 'k? ;)

Band name confusion: "The Mama's and the Papa's" on the debut album cover (note the superfluous apostrophes for plurals -- arrrghhh! -- which seemed to fade in and out over time) was later changed to "The Mamas & the Papas".

Listed in the archives *seven* ways -- poor ChuckyG! --

Mama and the Papas (one entry)
The Mamas and Papas (11 entries)
Mamas and Pappas (one entry)
The Mama's And The Papa's (keeps the superfluous apostrophe), 31 entries ATM
Mamas & Papas (one entry)
The Mamas & The Papas (24 human entries plus one reptilian)
Mamas & The Pappas (one entry)

Worse yet: "The Papas & The Mamas", a 1968 album by The Mamas & the Papas; their final album together before the group broke up, then reunited for a 1971 album.

Solomon Turtle settles it: Even though their third album is *listed* at Wikipedia, and the photo *captioned*, as "The Mamas and the Papas Deliver", you can look at the *photo* of the album cover, and it's "The Mamas & The Papas Deliver", plain as day. (Ampersand vs. "And")

First album, as mentioned above: "The Mama's and the Papa's".
Second, third, and fifth (the last): "The Mamas & The Papas".
(skipping the fourth, "Papas and Mamas" as irrelevant)

This particular OS was done for the first album. However, since they were best- and longest-known as "The Mamas & The Papas", it would be easier to stay consistent and cite all their OS that way. And less searching through the archives. ;) Hence, TT stays with the latter, as he did in his first spin of TOS, but won't argue with anyone who does songs from the first album, or the early singles, with the title as actually spelled there. Then there would be only two archive groups instead of seven. :)

The four that left off the "The" at the beginning or middle of either spelling are doomed to orphanage in the archives, and the eleven-song spelling is kinda' off by itself, too, unless ChuckyG is bribed heavily to change them after-the-fact. ;)

Wish every day was Sunday and TT, I'm sure you can make it so...

Yer a regular Cass'anova--burstin' on the scene and radiatin' brilliance everywhere--yellow dwarfin' all other smoosh pretenders... you must contain some truly dark matter, baby (even more than Christine O'Donnell)--and *scads* of Strange Quarks!

Didn't the M&P's start out as the Mugwumps? I think some old second-hand record dealer told me that many moons ago. In keeping with your wishes I won't make any jokes about KIA's or Daewoo's. With or without apostrophes.

Mark Scotti: Would that I could! :) thanks!

TJC: LOL @ Cass-play! .. Yep, lots of strange quarks/quirks here; thanks for tolerating! (and for v/c).

John Barry: Thanks. Sorry you couldn't make it to Wednesday's, but there will be more. Not for a while, though, as the intent is to keep ramping up the number smooshed. Thanks for v/c.

Cass Turolye: I'll bet you find Sunday to be the most re-laxative day of the week! :-D

Patrick: Check out the lyrics to "Creeque Alley", which is in fact a bio of the birth and growth of the M&Ps. Here's a Wikipedia link to the story behind the story:

No www is necessary in that one; just copy it into your browser's address bar as is, and hit Enter. The browser will fill in the http stuff. Also, a YouTube search should have Creeque Alley in its original form. Thanks for v/c's ;D
