Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

The original is one of my favorite songs of all time. Even if John Sebastian was high as a kite when he sang it at Woodstock.
Come
and talk about what school taught you today
there
in science class, a funny little way.
While we have this accepted-long theory
that the fundamentalists say must leave.

But, Darwin, be home soon.
I couldn't bear to wait
an extra minute for the evolve.
Yes, Darwin, be home soon.
It's not just so-called Christians
but we also have the resolve
for the great relief of having this to talk through.

And now
semester of this biology class
has come around to Creation at last
and I am, in this time now, left confused.
They say Genesis story's really true.

Oh, Darwin, be home soon.
I couldn't bear to wait
an extra minute for the evolve.
Yes, Darwin, be home soon.
It's not just so-called Christians
but we also have the resolve
for the great relief of having this to talk through.

(instrumental break)

Oh, Darwin
Oh, Darwin, be home soon.
I couldn't bear to wait
an extra minute for the evolve.
Yes, Darwin, be home soon.
It's not just so-called Christians
but we also have the resolve
for the great relief of having this to talk through.

Go
and let them shake their fists against the sky.
Try
and have a little patience with those guys.
They prob'ly think we didn't reach the Moon.

So, Darwin, be home soon.
I couldn't bear to wait
an extra minute for the evolve.
Yes, Darwin, be home soon.
It's not just so-called Christians
but we also have the resolve
for the great relief of having this to talk through.

Michael, as much as I admire your parodies, I don't seem to make heads or 'tails' out of this one. I am not sure why, but I can't decipher what you are saying. I do like the title and how it is tied to an evolution/creation discussion, but that's all I can get out of it. Sorry...

Thanks for the parody, Michael. This fared better than the last one I wrote about religion, and I wasn't even going for the antagonistic angle. I guess we've got some religiously extremist types roaming around here....

Judging by all these ones... and by the fact that this is a 38-year-old song and hardly the best-remembered Spoonful number, so it's probably not well-known here... it looks like I hit a nerve with the creationists. Well, they've convinced me: They, at least, are not the products of evolution. At least, not much of it. They're still apes.

I happen to believe in the Creation myself, but that doesn't mean I'm going to slap one's on this. It's well done and thought provoking. 5's.
