Original Song Title:

Original Performer:

The Irish Rovers

Parody Song Title:

"Great Anagrams"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

The Irish Rovers, a band originating in Toronto in the 60s is now wrapping up their 50th and 'final' tour. The current effort started as a series of "anagram maps". It is recommended that you review these maps on my blog to help understand the context of the song. The maps have some quirky features and dozens more anagrams for each political group which are not covered in the lyrics.
In the neat little town they call CHARLESTON
(Which unscrambles to Lonehart SC)
A WAR ravages South Caroli-ina -
It's that raw anagram rivalry.

With just eight electoral ballots
She's hardly the queen of the land
But what makes a great STATE (try teats, testa- )
Is a taste for some great anagrams.

Her 'I's help polish REPUBLICANS
While DEMOCRATS host 'O' and 'T';
What distinguishes South Caroli-ina -
All the partisans have 'S' and 'C'.

If electoral maps you do ponder
'Cause November is not very far
The battle's 3 critical RA-(A)CES
Are CA and SC and AR.

Well, the Blues have locked up the Seaboard
From MainE's Sort Cad to Coaster MD
Very few Republican voters
Until Usable Rip in NC.

The Central view is quite different -
There Democrats won't do too well.
Reds carry the day in Bunslicer PA,
Puce's Barn, Spacernub in IL.

Out West, Democrats are sure winners
(A fact that's astounding to know)
With Arse Doc in MT and Catmore SD
And Rest Dam and St Madre CO.

The South presents a mixed picture -
Blues unrivaled in Redcoat MS
While in LA and AL-aba-ama
Reds are victors - there's no need to guess.

The swing states include CAlifornia
Whose anagrams tilt to'ard the Red
So in Burplines and Burnspiel there's Nil Superb
What was once a Close rAce is now dead.

That leaves us with South Carolina
The queen of both sides' anagrams.
There's Tea Dorm, Art Mode and Red A-atom
Mod'rate, Teardom, Meat Rod and Tore Dam.

Her 'I's help polish REPUBLICANS
While DEMOCRATS host 'O' and 'T';
What distinguishes South Caroli-ina?
All partisans have 'S' and 'C'.

Now come all ye Palinrube voters
Take Bluer Pain warning by me
Whenever you're out at the LineupBar
Watch out for Alpine Rub in SC.
There's Unripe Lab, Urban Pile, Prunebail
Also Burial Pen - can't you see
With each Nubile Rap, ev'ry Alien Burp
There are great anagrams in SC.

Her 'I's help polish REPUBLICANS
While DEMOCRATS host 'O' and 'T';
What distinguishes South Caroli-ina?
All partisans have 'S' and 'C'.

A lot of hard work went into this. Go to Giorgio's blog for the maps, which serve as a visual aid for the parody. You will be rewarded. The towns plus their state abbreviations are anagrams of either Republicans or Democrats. The OS is an Irish song, which is a perfect vehicle for the list of anagrammatic towns. Note that SC (South Carolina) produces many anagrams of both parties because S and C are common to Republicans and Democrats. I was present at the creation. 5s +.

Thanks Al for additional explanation. Oops! - a goof on this submitted version. I had meant to use Northlea SC in the first verse. Strangely, all the anagrams of Charleston including Alethorn, Latehorn and Tornheal SC, as well as Northlea and Lonehart, detract from the magical character of the place. You should amplify. You were involved in the origin of the parody-song, not the creation of the state of SC or either national political party.

Like Dean Acheson, I was present at the creation == not a participant. I took a broad view of your fine parody; see my last comment on your blog.
