The Lyrics

You are under arrest
They say you've done no good
A felony you're charged
Though you say you never would
You claim it was contrived
You hint that it's a lie
It's politics, you're sure
You swear that you are pure

So c'mon, smile for your mug shot today, Tom DeLay
You'll get revenge somehow
Blame the Democrats, you say, Tom DeLay
American know-how
You say you are not a crook
At you they will throw the book and
Smile for your mug shot today, Tom DeLay, Tom DeLay

I guess you're lonely now
Even Bush won't call again
Your fingerprints are done
Will you do time in the penn?
Your money laundering
It doesn't mean a thing
If you did the crime
Dude, you might do some time

So c'mon, smile for your mug shot today, Tom DeLay
You'll get revenge somehow
Blame the Democrats, you say, Tom DeLay
American know-how
You say you are not a crook
At you they will throw the book and
Smile for your mug shot today, Tom DeLay, Tom DeLay

Thanks, Arwen, John, AFW. Steve, guilty as charged! Alvin, yeah, he looks a bit too cheery, doesn't he? BTW...here's a useless fact about the original song...I recently found out that The Flying Machine, the White Plains (My Baby Loves Lovin') and Edison Lighthouse (Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes) were actually the same group. Same singer, same musicians...but they changed their name every time they released a single. So I guess The Flying Machine isn't a one-hit wonder after all! (I already spoofed "Love Grows" so maybe I should do "My Baby Loves Lovin" to complete the cycle..)

Good job, Mason. The same singer also sang as the Pipkins (Gimme Dat Ding) and First Class (Beach Baby). Sort of like Joey Levine was the lead singer for many "bubblegum" acts, like the Ohio Express, the 1910 Fruitgum Company and Crazy Elephant, as well as the post-bubblegum act Reunion (who did "Life Is a Rock But the Radio Rolled Me," which sounds like a pre-"We Didn't Start the Fire").
