As Mari expressed in her Eminem parody, the problem with radio today is it's isolationism. Hip new stations like the ones my daughter listens to play new bands weekly that come and go. Even the "Classic Rock" stations play the four or five hits the band had and that's all. Not much out there for expanding horizons, but until people can play the internet in their car, that's what we get and what "record companies" are slitting their own throats with.

Interesting insight, Rick. I agree with your accessment of the disposability of today's bands. For me, I see a general dirth of high-quality song writing. All the energy is put into the sound of a recording, not into writing a song that will have true mass appeal. I hate to fall back on Lennon-McCartney and Brian Wilson again, but their songs were enjoyed by both adults and teenagers, and covered by artists of many genres from jazz to country. That just doesn't happen today. BTW Rick, can I count on your vote?

Since you twisted my arm, you know how I disapprove of "Amiright" inspired stuff. A point you made about concentrating on the recording. As you know, they used to record things IN STEREO.

I wasn't done. I accidently pushed the button, Max. My point was that if you take an old recording like "For What It's Worth", and play with the stereo knob, you almost get two completely different songs. Many younger people never try this, because almost all of today's music is "centered". Left and right speakers are only slightly different. If you want an interesting experience, find the stereo mix of "Satisfaction", and play just the speaker that doesn't have the electric guitar riff. What you get is drums, Mick singing, AND AN ACOUSTIC GUITAR YOU DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WAS THERE. And your right, Dave. the songs were such that you could stand all these repeat listenings.

Silly me. I actually thought everyone would know the original. So, for you who don't - it's the song Nicolas Cage sang to his wife at her birthday barbecue in "The Family Man". Now, does anyone remember? Pleeeeease remember!

IK the chorus at least... the line "I don't know a song past '92" cracked me up - I could say that for '83....

And Rick, your comment brought back those nightmare days when one of my cheap plastic hi-fi speakers would burn out...! ;-)

This could be my favorite parody of the day! I HATE it when I don't know the original...I HATE it. And you've sooo captured that emotion. I loved this. And the pacing was perfect...I gladly grant you three golden fives!! Excellent!!

David C - Wow! I'm really touched when someone writes a song especially for me, I...OH, wait. This was about you! Well, it's about me, too. You know I voted 5's, went to look at the comments before making mine, and couldn't remember if I had voted yet. Eyow! So it's what, uhh...like Wednesday today? No wait...Thursday...uhh...Thirsty? No, I'm fine, thank you,,, Actually, what's worse is I know SOME songs within the last decade but there's a whole period from the 80's to early-mid 90's where I know almost nothing! Wasn't paying attention to much that came out in that period.
