The Lyrics

Last week, radio legend Scott Muni, AKA The Professor, Fats, and
Scotso, passed away at the age of 74. He was a pioneer of
free-form FM progressive rock radio (a format that has all but
dissapeared), and as the program director and creative force
behind NYC's WNEW-FM 102.7 in the late 60s and through the
70s, he discovered the likes of Elton John, Billy Joel, the
Grateful Dead, Led Zeppellin, Elvis Costello...the list goes on
and on. Many of the songs parodied here would have been
quite as popular had Scotso not discovered the performers
early in their careers. I used to listen to him in the 70s when he
was always introducing new acts and music that would go on to
become classics. So this isn't a funny parody...it's a tribute to a
legend who set a standard that radio (at least in NY) no longer
comes close to. He was also a big-time Beatles supporter and
knew them all personally, so here's my Beatles parody/tribute.
Goodbye, Scotso
Your voice made my radio vibrate
Goodbye, Scotso
You made the music sound so clear

Farewell, Ol' Fats (hookie dookie)
Farewell, Ol' Fats
It's all right

You played music
That no one else had ever heard of
You discovered
Zep, The Who, and Grateful Dead

Farewell, Ol' Fats (hookie dookie)
Farewell, Ol' Fats
It's all right

You're a legend,
The sound of 102.7
And that era
It's over 'cause you are not here

Farewell, Ol' Fats (hookie dookie)
Farewell, Ol' Fats
It's all right
We now return to our regularly-scheduled silly parodies...

RMason - Excellent job. I miss free-form progressive FM radio, too. Out here in L.A. we used to listen to KPPC in Pasadena for that. Long gone, too, for sure...Late at night used to play entire album sides uninterrupted, then just a brief verbal intro for the DJ to que up the 2nd side. In my mind I can hear the slight sound of the stylus touching down the vinyl (I'm not sure if it was really audible or not but I seem to remember it).

I was a fan of Scott Muni and this is a good song... hope you don't mind the "1" for funny because I understand that this song is meant to be touching and not parodical. Good job.

Johnny D--thanks, I wrote this after listening to radio and XM tributes all day. If you get a chance, check out XM's tribute to Scotso, from Pete Fornatele, Vin Scelsa and Pat St. John. They even have the infamous Elton John "Pink Pussycat" commercial, which has wall-to-wall beeps! Paul--I miss those days too, and Scotso was a pioneer of the format. Some of that spirit is coming back on XM. I just subscribed, and it's like the old WNEW-FM. Paul--no problem with the 1, it really isn't supposed to be funnye (well maybe the "hookie dookie part...)
