Song Parodies -> "Merry & Pippin"

Original Song Title:

"Eleanor Rigby"

Original Performer:

The Beatles

Parody Song Title:

"Merry & Pippin"

Parody Written by:

Mary Poppins

The Lyrics

(Oh, are we all such lonely people?)
(Or, are we all just nosy people?)

Merry and Pippin:
We all surmise, as we search for some clues, try to see...
Who might they be?
Only those two know
We run in place, as we keep speculating -- what for?
Are we just bored?
Merry and the Pippin: Two dudes? Two girls? Just one?
Merry and the Pippin elude us -- are we dumb?

Always intensely
Scanning the words that they write as we search for a clue:
Who are these two?
It isn't working
Darn! Bet they mock us at night when they know we can't hear --
(Our fault, I fear...)
Merry and the Pippin: they've screwed with us so long...
Merry and the Pippin... (why do we write these songs?)

Ah... are we all such lonely people?
Or... are we all just nosy people?

Who can these chicks be?
Lies and deceit fly around us, ensuring their fame
Maybe they came
From Argentina?
We're so disturbed -- to this great mystery we're enslaved
But will they cave?

Merry and the Pippin... [simultaneously]: (Oh, are we all such lonely people?)
They've screwed with us so long...
Merry and the Pippin... [simultaneously]: (Or, are we all just nosy people?)
Why do we write these songs?

Thank you, Arwen. I got the idea when I saw the title of Andy Roper's submission yesterday and my mind immediately went to this tune. Of course, his parody has a completely different title: "Merry AND Pippin", so no one would ever confuse the two...

Thank you, Adagio, M-Dawg and GBHD for stopping by. I'm not sure who voted -- it looks like not everyone did -- but thank you for reading regardless.
Michael Pacholek - July 15, 2004 - Report this comment
Did I like this or not? I guess it'll have to remain a mystery... No it won't. I loved it. Of course, I've contributed to the legend myself, if you don't mind the shameless plug (and since I've given you all fives, I think it's a fair trade): "Can't Get It Right."

Wow! Just when I thought the controversy has died down I find this lovely ditty. And then I read that there is one yesterday too! I keep telling everyone we are two gay hobbits, but no one believes me... (except for Malcolm - we will be hot chicks for him... ;-)
Peregrin - July 16, 2004 - Report this comment
I am a flattered hobbit (which is preferable to being a flattened hobbit!)
Liao Xhe - July 16, 2004 - Report this comment
Well, guys thanks! Especially our esteemed guest(s) of honor the title hobbit(s)! Glad you enjoyed my little ditty. Boy, the way people try to disguise their identities on this site is a constant source of amusement for me...
Wait a second -- why is my name showing up as 'Liao Xhe'? -- it should say 'Mary Poppins'!... 'M-A-R-Y P-O-P-P-I-N-S', DAMMIT!.

CHUCK-E-E-E-E!!!! SOMETHING WEIRD IS GOING ON WITH THE SITE AGAIN!!!!....

Okay...I've cast my vote on yours! Oh and btw......who says I'm a 'he' ??? Hehehe.....
Peregrin - July 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Merry & Poppin(s)? Eh? Oh dear, that was a Liao-Xhe rhyme ;~p
Mary Poppins - July 20, 2004 - Report this comment
Hey, Meriadoc, I don't mind when Spaff refers to me as 'Lee OJ', because 'OJ' can refer to any number of things: orange juice, olfactory judgement, oratory jocularity -- y'know, the usual stuff. But to invoke the name of 'Orenth--' (geez, can't even write it) -- is going a bit too far... ;-P
