The Lyrics

This tragic piece is based on an actual experience...I lied when I said my one fear is dentists...there are other evils in this world...
My night turned out to be bad
The worst of the year--yeah
The bugs were driving me mad
One flew in my ear!

That's where a cricket will hide
That's where a cricket will hi-i-ide
That's where a cricket will hide
So just beware!

One moment, flying so free
Around in the air--yeah
Next second, crawling in me
Could hear it in there

That's where a cricket will hide
That's where a cricket will hi-i-ide
That's where a cricket will hide
So just beware!

No surprise it's making me cry
The damage was done
And it was no fun for me
Grosser than your av-er-age fly
A really big one
Was now on the run IN me

So when you're out in the park
And buzzing draws near--yeah
The danger lurks in the dark
Just cover your ear--yeah!

'Cause that's where a cricket will hide
That's where a cricket will hi-i-ide
That's where a cricket will hide
So just beware!

I looked so dumb in front of my guy
'Cause I was screamin'
My eyes were streamin'! Ooo-eee!
Couldn't see it with the bare eye
But it was crawlin'
Yeah, it was haulin' IN me

Now it's not livin' in me
No settlin' down--yeah
But of fear, I'm never free
I still glance around

Oh, ears are where crickets will hide
Ears are where crickets will hi-i-ide
Ears are where crickets will hide
So just beware!

You've gotta beware
You've gotta beware
You've gotta beware
You've gotta beware

I was about to ask why you didn't write this about cicadas... but then I realized that wouldn't be cricket ;-)
Arwen - June 15, 2004 - Report this comment
Well, Phil...in all honestly, it was a miller moth that flew in my ear. But cricket sounded better with the song. So...there you have it. Thanks for the vote!!

Very well written; I have to give you a perfect score on this. :)

Very well done and very funny! And I haven't heard anyone use the term 'miller' for a moth in nigh on 40 years! Took me right back to my childhood! Spooky! :-D

Thanks, Emi...for dropping by. You're right, alvin, it probably could have been worse...but it was bad enough. i will NEVER forget how it sounded/felt....bleah! and MERRY...i'm not old enough to be reminding you of things that happened 40 years ago!!! I thought everyone called them miller moths!! =) Thanks to you all!

I can't believe EmiLoca Don't Know The Original Song. It was only the Beatles' 37th Number 1 hit. (Actually, their 7th of 21 -- on the U.S. charts, anyway, not counting their solo chart-toppers.) And a good inside joke, since the Beatles sort of named themselves after the band of Paul's idol Buddy Holly -- the Crickets.

Arwen, Excellent job. 5's. Alvin stole theme of my comment. Arwen, what the hell IS a MILLER MOTH? Out here in Californ-ee we don't really have any bugs, ya' know...
Cookie-man - June 15, 2004 - Report this comment
Sadly enough I feel your pain. I actually had a very similar experience years ago and it scared the HELL out of me! Well done!!!!!!

Thanks, Michael, Paul, & Cookie!! Is there anything you DON'T know/catch, Michael? Just kidding...please don't let that go to your head. Paul...a miller moth is one of those...well, I think they are probably the most common of your every day moths...at least out here. They are gross and dirty and SO annoying...but I was never terrified of them until one tried to take up residence in my brain! Sorry to hear you were equally plagued, Cookie...it's the worst! Oh...and on the moth, Paul, You can view one at this site: www.colostate.edu/Depts/CoopExt/4DMG/Pests/millers.htm Thanks again, all of you!!
Kristof Robertson - June 16, 2004 - Report this comment
You poor thing...with all your falling down, spilling food on yourself, and endless pouting, how do you make it thru the day? :-) btw, top notch...555
Arwen - June 16, 2004 - Report this comment
Kristof...I've said it before...it's a good thing I'm so damned cute, or else I'd be in a circus side show...hehehe...=) Thanks, baby...

Paul: A Miller moth is a moth that is attracted to light -- beer.

Michael - OH, that was BAD...How can you be sure they aren't "Bud Lite" Moths? (Ugh! that was even worse than yours...it's very late...I need to go to bed)....

Hehe... this one's really good! I know this one's been around a while, but I hadn't gotten a chance to read it yet. Now that I have read it, I'm gonna give it a perfect score! ;D
