Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

When I was over
Th' Emerald Isle
Caught a Leprechaun
Said that if I freed him, I'd get wishes three
What would I like wishes to be?
I said I'd like a wide-screen TV
He said "Use the store"
I started to scold him
That's when I told him
What's a pixie for?

Wished for a high-speed internet link
T3 pipe or more
But he couldn't handle new technology
Never liked T CP/IP
Routing the packets, getting the speed
Hit a major flaw
Couldn't produce less
Totally useless
What's a pixie for?

Maybe he could give Madonna talent, or help Britney sing
Can that be too hard?
Or make Busted play...
He said all he can is grant a wish
Miracles - no way

Send me an email, drop me a text
That, he could not do
That's when it occurred to me what next to say
I tried asking another way
A pile of gold and
A bucket of jewels
In a hidden store
When he could do it
That's when I knew it:
What's a pixie for

Fun to read and excellent pacing. And all this time I'd just been spraying them like Hoggle in Labyrinth.

There's a barrelful at rainbow's end..

Phil, I had to really plumb the depths of my memory because when I was reading the 2nd verse I was going, "wait a minute this is totally off", and of course if wasn't. Just took me awhile to remember exactly how it goes. Old enough to remember all the old songs from the 60's and also old enough to have started forgetting things, too. Great job!.

Thanks, all.. took me a while to come up with the title, in that I wanted to parody this song, but didn't want it to be "When I'm x4" (2 <= x <= 9).. but I liked the "Miracles... no way" bit so much, this is what it turned into :-)

Phil, you don't need a pixie to give you parody writing talent. Well done.

I liked the verse about asking him to help Britney sing or make Busted play their instruments - how do these people get their fame?

Ah, yes. That's what a pixie's for. I did look up leprechaun and pixie for definition and they are both faerie folk, but I don't see any place where a leprechaun can be called a pixie or vice versa, although a fairy and a pixie can be the same, a leprechaun is grouped under elf while pixie is grouped under fairy... still, BBP (blimey brilliant parody). Top o' the parody to ya.
Phil Alexander - January 05, 2005 - Report this comment
But how do you know it wasn't a leprechaun *pretending* to be a pixie? Or vice versa... hold on a sec, I think I've got my poetic license here somewhere ;-)
Tim Mayfield - January 12, 2005 - Report this comment
Phil, that's funny, I just looked up poetic licenses under images on the search engine and got this

to engage in deviations in strict fact, form, or rule on the assumption that it will be permitted for the sake of the advantage or effect gained.

The bearer is officially authorized to: arrange, change, invent, improvise, regroup, rhyme or unrhyme any and all words, phrases, sentences and fragments for the purpose of painting pictures in the hearts, minds and souls fo all, in order to express thoughts, feelings, emotions and the truth as the bearer sees it, in the most original and creative style.

and the final blow:
This license grants the bearer the right to create new words, exaggerate to ridiculous effects, make no money, use adjectives, metaphors, assonances, consonants, etc., be known for frivolous pastimes like reading and any other activity deemed properly "poetic" by jury of peers.

Nice one, Tim - I might just print one of those up for myself ;-)
