"The Temple: Seventy Years Later"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Based on Ezra 3:12. Background: King Nebuchadnezzar II had defeated Judea, captured all the people, and brought them back to Babylon. He burned the Temple, and leveled all the land of Judea. Seventy years later, the Persians captured Babylon under Cyrus the Great. In short order, Cyrus signed a decree that the Jews were free to return to Judea - even paying the travel expenses. Many (not everybody) accepted the offer. Though I would imagine that most of the over-70 population chose to remain in Babylon, there were also many who chose to bear the drudgery of returning. Some were old enough to remember the original Temple. Regardless of age, the Jews found the Temple leveled and in ruins. The younger Jews wrote rebuilding plans, but the building plans horrified the people old enough to remember the original Temple with its grandeur and glory. This parody recreates how one senior saw things.
I remember Sol'mon's Temple
We would travel there each Yom Kippur
I cannot believe it's fallen
These were times that I adore

All these festivals and weeks of family gatherings
A youth of nine years
I still can recall
In three-ee mo-onths I'll be turning eighty
Jerusalem, how could you fall!

Now Zerubbabel and Haggai
Wish to build again. That seems askew
It would not return to splendor
I can't think of God as something new

Though I kno-ow tha-at Ne-e-bu-chad-nezzar
Was powered by God I still abhor
All praise to God for the decree of Cyrus
I'll always love the old one more

Though I kno-ow tha-at Ne-e-bu-chad-nezzar
Was powered by God I still abhor
All praise to God for the decree of Cyrus
I'll always love the old one more
[falsetto] I'll always love [normal] the old one more

I always suspected John Lennon was a closeted Anglican Christian man ;-D ...... BTW, Ive done a couple on your theme -- Highway To The Manger Zone (That parody was a musical epiphany for me) And then as Callmelennie I did "L-E-N-T" .. based on the song by Nat King Cole. And then an all time great parodist named Alvin Rhodes did "Fish 'n Loves" based on Doobie Bros "China Grove" .......
