Original Song Title:

"A Hard Day's Night"

Original Performer:

The Beatles

Parody Song Title:

"A Hard Knight's Day"

Parody Written by:

Rick Duncan

The Lyrics

Still yet more Beatles Did'em all.
It's been a hard night's day
And I've been jousting with a lance
It's been a hard nights day
Now there's a big hole in my pants
And when I get back today
I've got a dragon to slay
It's just my duty as a knight

You know it's real hard work
Rescuing damsels in distress
And it might be really helpful if
I wasn't wearing a metal dress
I need a maiden at home
To help me polish the chrome
It's such a chore to be a knight

When I go
Into a battle to fight
I'm a pro
Riding a horse that is white, white, yeah

It's been a hard knight's day
I have to go and defend the land
It's been a hard night's day
My time is really in demand
And if you need me I'm found
Behind a table that's round
It is my duty as a knight
It is my duty as a knight
You know I'm one good knight....

I wrote something very similar as a LRP song, but never completed it to my satisfaction (the "When I'm home" lines never seemed quite right, but the funny thing is that I also rhymed "damsels in distress" with "wearing a metal dress") . This one's super, all through.

I'm always looking for ways to just switch two words and see what happens. Or words to switch two ways.

I know what you mean - often thought of doing "The Space of AIDS".. but can't think how to make it funny...

Better late than never--since I thought of the phrase way after you did evidently. Funny!

This parody is fabulous, but do you always make fun of songs from the 1960s? Or just from the Beatles or other groups like that?

Raddog---I think the music you heard between the ages of 10-30 is what you know and learn to love the best. And that's what you are most qualified to expound or expand on. That's why each generation doesn't understand the music of the previous one. My father hated the Beatles. What I wonder is, what kind of music are the children of the rap generation going to find that pisses off their parents? Beethoven? Plus I came onto the site having done all the Beatle songs, just to amuse my spouse. Since then I have been rooting around in other eras.

Would you like to look at my list of parodies? I know that a few that I wrote are lame, but most of them are interesting to me. By the way, thanks for the tip of meeting Weird Al. Could you also send votes and comments to my other parodies? Thank you.

Oh, I forgot. I agree with your explanation about the generations of music.

Surely you joust! I'd like to give you 5's for this, m'boy . . . but I can't. I already voted on this one a couple months ago.

Rick, great one! Loved the "I need a maiden at home to help me polish the chrome" line. A 555 lb suit of armor for you.

Rick, great job and also a fine explanation of the musical generation gap to that young fella. 5's. Now...the "Rap" generation...I've mused a bit about that, too. I mean, it's hard to picture a couple growing old together and reminiscing about the rap songs they listened to together..."Hey, dear, d'you remember the first time I bitch slapped you? It was to this rap song...yeah, the one about being the meanest f*ckin' cop k..." well, anyway, that's the general idea...so, hey, who knows?
