Song Parodies -> "Joe DeRita"

Original Song Title:

"Lovely Rita"

Original Performer:

The Beatles

Parody Song Title:

"Joe DeRita"

Parody Written by:

Porfle Popnecker

The Lyrics

Joe DeRita's freakin' lame
Joe DeRita's freakin' lame

Joe DeRita's freakin' lame
Really brought down the Stooges
Wouldn't you know they'd call him Curly Joe

Shemp was dead, the Three were lesser
Went ahead, and hired Joe Besser
Prissy little comic with a little boy squeal

Made a few, then shorts were finished
Besser flew, again diminished
Moe and Larry had to make another quick deal

Joe DeRita, deal is made
Filling the spot between them
Nothing to dig, he's just a big fat schmoe

Movie work for Moe and Larry
But this jerk they had to carry
Bringin' on the funny while he floundered around

Told a rag, for pocket money
Didn't think the act was funny
What did he expect when he was dragging 'em down

Oh, Joe DeRita's freakin' lame
Face of the Stooges' nadir
Call me a hater, think he rates ze-ro

Joe DeRita's freakin' lame
Joe DeRita's freakin' lame
Joe DeRita's freakin' lame (oh, Joe DeRita-Rita's freakin' lame)
Joe DeRita's freakin' lame

Porfle - Why I oughtta! Good parody here. In Curley Joe's defense, at least he wasn't Marty Allen or Carrot Top! ;D

Or Mousie Garner! You've got a point there.

Bit before me, but I can still appreciate some Curly Joe jabs. Reruns showed me the same.

Loved the shorts when I was a kid, but never liked the movies with Curly Joe. I'd probably appreciate them more now, though. No matter who the third guy was, it always gave Moe and Larry a chance to keep working, which was good.

I think you're right, Curly Joe was never quite the right chemistry as the others..

The whole shtick revolved around Curly Howard's completetly original and inspired lunacy, which couldn't be duplicated. It's not like they were reciting really hilarious lines or anything. So, naturally the act went downhill after Curly suffered his stroke.

As much as I love Curly, I'm also a big fan of the great Shemp, who was actually a Stooge before Curly took his place shortly before they started making shorts at Columbia. I like Joe Besser too, although a lot of fans don't. And of course Moe and Larry are awesome themselves. Curly Joe was the only one who just plain didn't do anything for me.

"Does the cat see the mouse? Yeah, the dirty rat!!!"- 555!!! I love the Stooges too but CJ likewise did nothing for me. I liked Shemp a lot too. The one where's he's dreaming about being an inventor and sets the bed on fire: Moe and Larry ask what he was dreamin' about and Shemp says that he dreamt of inventing a fountain pen that writes with whipped cream, setting-up a pie in the face and a fountain pen to which Moe says, "Get writin'"... "Dear Ma..." ;-D
Porfle Popnecker - January 25, 2012 - Report this comment
That fountain pen was one of their favorite running gags, along with the imported coat ("You can still smell the ocean!"), Larry comparing every nice place they enter to his old reform school, and Moe's "I gotta hire myself a cheap lawyer!"

Listen and understand, Porfle. The Stooge is out there. It can't be reasoned with. It can't be parodied with. It doesn't feel pity, remorse or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, EVER, until your eyes are poked.

You like that, Porfle? That's from the upcoming blockbuster movie, The Curlynator
