The Lyrics

Ten years ago, science-fiction TV star Avery Brooks did an IBM commercial in which he said -- ironically, in black-and-white film on the 1883-built Brooklyn Bridge -- "It's the year 2000. Where are the flying cars? I was promised flying cars!" Today, I want to know where are the cars that don't need oil. Too many people, animals and jobs have died due to oil. It's time to make fossil fuels, themselves, fossils, replaced and unnecessary.
Oy, crude.
They made it bad.
Took some bad stuff
and made it splatter.
Let's find something good to put in our cars.
End this great farce
and make it better.

Oy, crude.
Made us afraid.
We were made to
make oil not matter.
Remember, do not "drill, baby drill."
Clean up the spill
and make it better.

And every time we feel the pain
oy, crude
refrain
we carry the world upon our shoulder.
For well you know that it's a fool
who plays it cool
by making up wars of oil, some colder.

Ah na na na na, na na na na...

Oy, crude.
They let us down.
Shrimp and flounder
gone, wildcatters.
Remember this petroleum assault.
Not just Bush's fault.
We've now got better.

So get 'em out, get new ones in.
Oy, crude
begin.
We're waiting for new fuel to perform with.
And don't you know that's it's on us
oy, crude
make fuss.
Stop drilling for oil in any boulder.

Ah na na na na, na na na na...
Hey...

Oy, crude.
They made it bad.
Took some bad stuff
and made it splatter.
Remember, do not "drill, baby drill."
Clean up the spill
and make it better.
Better.
Better.
Better.
Better!
Ow!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah...

Na, na na, na na na na...
Na na na na...
Oy, crude!

Na, na na, na na na na...
Na na na na...
Oy, crude!

Na, na na, na na na na...
Na na na na...
Oy, crude!
(Repeat until fade, copy McCartney's various additions any way you like)

Who was it that said that he read all the science fiction novels back in the 1950's waiting for the flying cars and instead all he got was the dystopian government? No other substance I'm aware of exists in the quantities that petroleum does. Ethanol takes diesel to produce and distill. In the end, the raw materials are more important as food for humans and animals. Electric cars still require power plants to generate the electricity to recharge the batteries. And no one has come up with an electric with a tenth the range of a gasoline buggy, nor can a battery be recharged in the time it takes to refuel a gasoline vehicle. The government plan is to artificially jack the price of oil and coal before any functional alternative exists. They are more interested in depriving the middle class of its comforts and utilities than they are in a scientific or technical breakthrough. Wrecking the economy is something they know how to do. Finding a new source of reliable energy is beyond their capabilities. Good song. I can hear the Beatles singing it in my mind.

Why don't you get with it already. Are you not the least bit ticked off at that conglomerate that has so pigged up our Gulf coast that you have to play nice nice and suggest this stupid pipe dream of yours? Jimmy the Greek would place 20 to 1 odds that this thing you write about will not happen in your lifetime. While everyone else is bashing BP and the current administration and rightly so, you try to paint a utopia. You are like a lemming - you'd follow the bleeding hearts right into the oily Gulf and die in the slick. Grow some huevos and write it like it really is already. I nearly puked on my shoe when I read this.

we could recycle washed-up parodists

Hey alt fuel, good idea. We can get the lemming like parodists that have "washed up" on the Gulf Coast shoreline to recycle. We could certainly squeeze enough oil out of them and we wouldn't have to drill, baby drill...

The "Not just Bush's fault/We've now got better." seemed out of place, but good spoof of the BP situation.
