Song Parodies -> "Serenade"

Original Song Title:

"Penny Lane"

Original Performer:

The Beatles

Parody Song Title:

"Serenade"

Parody Written by:

Arwen

The Lyrics

I serenade when I see people at a restaurant
It doesn't matter if they're friends or folks unknown
Hold a fork UP to MY mouth and blare
T'everybody there

Often times when I am in an elevator car
And people join me on the first or second floor
Sing until they can't take an-y-more
So on level three
They all flee

Sere-NADE when I am bored to make time fly
IN the waiting room of Doctor Fry
His patients don't come back

I serenaded back in college through my drama class
And I can promise it was not part of the scene
You'll never find in Midsumm-ER Night's Dream
"Like a Sex Machine!"

(instrumental)

Sere-NAY-ding for the Baker making pies
His souffle falls, and then he cries
Spits in my pastry sack

I like to sing when I get nervous at a single's bar
When I make eye contact, it helps me to relax
Why did that dreamy guy his hand retract?
Didn't like my act

I serenade when I'm pulled over for a traffic stop
I share my license, registration, and a song
And then no matter what I've done wrong
Doubles up my fine
So unkind

Sere-NADE most ev'ry day and ev'ry night
MAN-y times the notes aren't even right
And tempo's quite off track

M'sere-NADE will hurt your ears and sting your eyes
SCARES off muggers, dogs, and flirting guys
Serenade!

I thought this was a parody of "Renegade" by the Styx when I first clicked on it, but after realizing it didn't scan I found out what it actually was. Great job Arwen, and that's much more than what I can say about your singing.

Hey, I enjoyed this one!! I know it's probably been ages since I last commented on one of your works, but that's only because there's been so much going on in my life this year that I haven't had much time to drop by. Anyways....great job on the parody, as usual.... so here's a perfect 5-5-5 vote for ya. :)

This rocks! A top quality parody - 555. (Maybe you should've been on the Performing Arts college course I attended a few years back, Arwen - you'd have fitted right in! ;^) )

gee...what a BAD HABIT! ;-) Lovely work, sweetie...I remember "There's a Stain" so this OS obviously is great for your parody writing. Bravo! 555

I enjoyed this. I sing in the car all the time. It helps prevent road rage. One time while I was waiting at a red light the guy in the car next to me joined in. If I hear someone singing or whistling at work I join them.

Of course the best singing occurs while driving. 5-5-5.

You should record this one... 5-5-5

What Mr Macphisto said...the title says it all. Good work, and I'm going to 5-5-5 it as well.

John B...awww...thanks! =)

Rick...nothing better than "as usual" after a complient...=) Thanks!

Matthias...in actuality, my singing is quite good. And I realize that I'm not very modest and generally say that everything I do is awesome...but really...I'm a good singer. Really. Why are you running away??

Alvin...=) Well...we'll have to meet up some time and I'm belt a couple of tunes out for you...while everyone else bursts into tears. ; )

Serafina...Thanks! I know how it is to get busy. Hopefully things will slow down enough for you to enjoy the holidays!

Wendy...=) Thanks very much!

Kristof...thanks a bunch. "There's a Stain" was my first ever "award winning" parody...so it holds a special place in my heart. I almost didn't do the OS again in its honor...but...oh well. Glad you liked it.

John...hee hee...great! Thanks!

PMS...=) I love anyone who isn't afraid to sing at the top of their lungs!! =)

Joe...I concur. I've put on who knows how many PHENOMENAL concerts in my car!

MrMacphisto...hee...maybe someday...; )

Ferragamo...thanks very much!

Jeff...Thanks. This MIGHT be for that contest...I've submitted four bad habit themed parodies to OS's by British artists in the past week...(I was assaulted by ideas)...not sure which one I'll choose yet. =)

I never thought you could write a parody of "Penny Lane" that would ever come close to "There's a Stain" but by golly, you did it. So many funny lines and images here. I could "serenade" your praises all day!
