The Lyrics

This is too funny... I spend hours writing wacky history about the Magna Carta being a credit card and about Franco-American Spaghetti being made 700 years before the US existed, and everyone says how "educational" it was, like they really read it.... right... well, it's my own fault... I should have known better... hey, that gives me (one last) idea...
I should have known better with a crowd like you
That you would miss half the jokes that I do
And you do, hey hey hey, not a clue

Whoa, oh, I never realized what a waste this be:
Witty writing for bourgeoisie [1]
They can't see; Guarantee:

That when they tell you that they Five you, oh
They hope you're gonna Five them too, oh
And if you stretch a pun too fine
They're gonna skip and hurry through

So I should have realized a lot of things before
Do I amuse? Elucidate? No, bore
But no more, hey hey hey, out the door

(Fast-forward through the interlude -- it's just a waste of time and adds nothing to the song)

Whoa, oh, I never ever mind when you disagree
Just explain your feelings to me
Make rapport, I implore

That when I leave a comment for you, oh,
It's 'cause I've made sincere review, oh
And when you say that you've read mine, oh
Just skip the da*n song if not true
Don't misconstrue,
And I'll thank you,
And now I'm through

[1] Go look it up yourself. (You're not gonna, and you know it.)

I'm not worried about reaction to this, 'cuz no one's gonna read it anyway. They'll just 5 it, hope to get a 5 in return, and go on to the next one, or 1 it, also without reading. AMF (Adios, My Friends). (Those of you to whom this doesn't apply -- and you know who you are, and who you're not -- count yourself out of these remarks, and thanks.) © 2007 Tommy Turtle.

Of course, the pacing is good, etc. You quitting again? You know the power of AIR slowly drawing you back to it's web. Strike that remark if this was another joke from you. Well, 5's, of course.

Hey TT, I know how you feel. We all do, because we all, at one time or another, give and/or receive lame comments. Myself, I wasn't planning on commenting on anything today as I didn't really have the time to dedicate to really reading each parody to TOS and leaving a thoughtful comment on each, but then I saw Pat's comment (while looking for spam).

I often read parodies on days that I do not have one posted (like today), just for the enjoyment of reading them, and also so that I can avoid any "I give you 5s, you give me 5s" that *might* occur. Conversely, I sometimes do not comment on days that I have a parody up for the same reason, though recently that has been more due to my working hours, or lack thereof.

I can't give you an honest review of the parody you linked in your opening comment (both links go to the same parody) because A) I DKTOS B) I'm historically-challenged and C) Footnotes that are five times longer than the parody tend to make me lose interest. Not that I don't appreciate their inclusion and the work to do so, it's just that topics with which I'm naturally familiar are the ones I enjoy the most. Now, I can handle one footnote, so I looked up "bourgeoisie" on Wikipedia: I'm afraid I still don't get the meaning of it as it is used here. Hell, I'm not even sure how to pronounce it, lol.

Anyway, while I'm fairly sure this parody is n/a to me, I thought I'd throw in my two cents since we (I hope) have had the rapport you seek. I've got a feeling you just needed to vent here, but if this is your last parody, then it's truly a sad day for AmiRight.

Watta Matta, TT? Wifey kick u outta bed last night? Grumpy? You need an enema and some counseling. Mad because nobody commented on your open-mic lame footnote sketch? People here are so acustomed to footnote rambling from u and J Barry, few read them. And this is just a guess, but even fewer will miss u. You will be a splat on the windshield, like so many petulant writers before you. You problem is that you value your wit and writing ability WAY MORE than most people, due to an over-inflated sense of ego. If you would concentrate on being funny, instead of trying to prove that u r the smartest, writer here, people would ike u better. Your constant praise parodies of other authors smacks of a desperate attempt to champion the downtrodden and the lame in order to gain friends. TSB? geez. Luiz, u and Agrimorphine. Wise up, dude or dudette, and write funny parodies and acclaim will come yur way. Trying too hard to be a genius around here will get u nowhere. If u r funny enough, the masses will proclaim your genius for u . Bourgeoisie? why don't you just call us idiots, like u r implying. I knew the meaning of the word in 3rd grade, as did many here, if not most. And an attack parody, which this is ( a blanket indictment on Amiright writers who you regard with disdain) has cemented your fate. I predict several more 5-1-1 votes for this tripe. I used to think better of u, but now? Just a t*rd in the punch bowl.

I'm sorry, did you say something? In all seriousness, we've all been there. I'm not sure these people get half the jokes I tell. What I am sure of is that they don't like the half they do get. My confidence sinks to an all-time low, and I have to get the Wyoming Therapy to realize how good I am at this.

I printed out the voluminous footnotes and am digesting them at my leisure. Looks like "Get Up," got up on the wrong side him/herself. He/she is no doubt right about few reading my f'notes. I add them merely because I amuse myself from time to time with obscure wordplay and references and figure it's a service to any readers who might not get the references. I'm also guilty of using pidgin foreign-language phrases in the three tongues in which I have passing knowledge, such as "va te faire foutre, cretin" "vete a la mierda, ano," and "iss Scheisse, Schweinhund."

Incidentally, what happened to the tough shell of this Turtle? This is indeed a shame.

Well, I for one read every word of your footnotes yesterday. Reminded me a little of Will Cuppy's "The Decline and Fall of Practically Everybody". :-) I don't always leave the most interesting comments because a) I am not a terribly witty person, and there is a lot of competition here for that type of comment b) often by the time I can get to the parodies I am tired, both pysically and mentally (It's not been a good year). I think however, that we have a pretty bright crowd here and they catch most of your puns and references. In fact, one of the reasons Pip and I seldom footnote our more enigmatic parodies is because we figure everyone is bright enough to either figure it out or else look it up. Also, we are lazy. Well, I am anyway. ;-) I do hope you are only joking about disappearing; or maybe just going underground to avoid the comb factories... ;-)

Elucidate? What does that word mean. . .I didn't rate this song. What I can say is I do leave short reviews, but I do read the songs, so I don't think it was meant to me. . .I don't know the original songs, and I haven't submitted a song in--oh I don't know a week, so I doubt it was aimed at me. . .anyhow. . .sorry if you truley feel that way. . .I do try and leave detailed reviews, but that would be much easier if their weren't so many to read everyday. . .ah--it wasn't aimed at me anyway, I don't have a song to be hit with fives or ones anyway so anyhow--have a good night Turtle. . .I often miss jokes on first read, this one with the exception of that one word was very straight forward. . . Dictionary Exert: Elucidate: To Make Clear--new word in my vocabulary today... Tommy, why don't you ever enter the contests, my best comments (as you can check on the ones I mark with parenthesis) are on those songs. . .Anyhow. . .that's it for now.

well, we'll be seein' ya next year then TT ;-)

seriously, and saying this as the friend you know me to be, last year it was because nobody was spending enough time returning your tribute parodies, and this year it's because nobody's spending enough time trying to understand your (very) subtle gags

you're clearly respected around here TT - clearly nobody (except maybe one) wants to you to leave - and everyone appreciates your intelligence - (btw we don't have to constantly convey this to you) - so this anger of yours comes across as being manipulative and needy, and you're smarter than that - write to amuse yourself, not us - why empower us with so much control over your level of self-appreciation?

I for one don't want to work too hard to understand an obtuse gag - great pacing, relaxed poetic wordplay and an easy read are the 3 things I look for and get impressed by (see spaff's "Odysseus") - and time is so precious that I'll spend it looking for that over the things you mention, whether people want me to or not

you can't try to bend us into doing what you want us to do, and then storm off when we understandably don't like (resent even) being bent (although I'm not speaking for Kristof there) - I only say this because you and I became friends last year, I love your intelligent writing and wit, and I want to see more of that without the other

anyway mate, I look forward to your charismatic annual flight through our skies next January, because as Kristof said, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave (or was that the Eagles?) - 555 (.....er whoops, sorry about that - habit I guess;-) )

Not that I need to do this, because most people have done it already (and far more eloquently than I am about to, but here goes anyway) :) Analogy time !

Feel that people don't appreciate your parody work ? Pfftt ! Small potatoes. I'd like to be six inches taller ! And three inches longer. Nah, stuff that, six inches there too, heh heh. *Point* is, it ain't gonna happen is it ? We all want what we aren't gonna have. At least what you want is technically obtainable. A bit of perspective is required, methinks.

A lot of the comments above (and the thread on the board) indicate that your parodies are well liked. By translation, you can read the same about yourself. What R-Ant, Merry, Big Bad Dave and Aussie Stu said !

I don't much get a chance to read and comment, between Merry and I we try to ensure that one half of us does so. Unfortunately for Merry that usually falls to her. Unfortunately as she has little time at present. It is for this reason (but not only that) that we have not entered a contest for quite some time. Point I am making is one that others have made. If my time is limited, that will mean my comments are limited as well. If this reads harshly, it is not meant to. I would like to see you back as well. Like Stu, though, I guess I don't desire to be told what I should or should not do when I am here...I have enough of that in real life to last me this lifetime and for a fair bit of anything that may follow it...
