I'm pretty sure the writers of TNG got the idea to Q from the Trelayne eppy of TOS. Damn, do I feel nerdy making that kind of analysis or what... :-)

Very clever,. accurate and concise re-telling of those memorable old original episodes. Aye, Captain Johnny, I'd beam ya' over some 5's but the blasted transporter is on the blink again, so I'll just eject 'em out the cargo port...I'm sure you'll be able to pick them up soon since it appears you have been roaming around the galaxy a bit lately here on the site...

Johnny: For the benefit of Mr. Scott, will there be a parody? You could do "Good Morning, Good Morning" for "Mission: Impossible," another Leonard Nimoy show (as in, "Good morning, Mr. Phelps"). Know 1: You're hardly the first to make that inference. In fact, there's even a ST novel (though Paramount points out that such books are not "canon") that confirms your suspicion, and when Trelayne grew up, look out... Trelayne, the Squire of Gothos, was played by William Campbell, who also played Klingon Captain Koloth in "The Trouble With Tribbles" and an older Koloth in a DS9 episode.

Thanks Michael. For the benefit of no one in particular, there will indeed be another parody...stay tuned. And I have read that non-canonical ST book, "Q Squared", about how the grown-up Trelayne does battle with the John-DeLancie-Q we all know and love and sends him back to the beginning of the universe, from which time he (the JDL-Q) has to struggle back through billions and billions of years to work his way back to the "present" to put Trelyane in his place...a fun read indeed, but not exactly challenging to the intellect --- but hey, nobody ever accused ST of being THAT, did they? ;-)

And I know of William Campbell's multiple Trek appearances as you described --- he obviously relished them all!
