The Lyrics

Sat on a mound of ants when I was three
Mean to tell you and then you will see
Thought it was good like ground in Tennessee,
Ran with the b'ar feet through the desert, oh gee!

Sore feet, teeny sore butt, fling but they do adhere.

Feet ended up sore through stickers I roared.
Poor cheeks was bit, didn't see what was in store
I sat down and they crept into my drawers.
Made themselves a defense forever more.

Sore feet, teeny sore butt, fling but they do adhere.

I hobbled on home, grief sores on all.
They did smart, I wanted to leave and bawl
Lost myself in that desert maul
But I answered, all red, my mommy's call.

Sore feet, teeny sore butt, fling but they do adhere.

I went off to catch rest and heal a spell
Fixin' up my bitten feet so they won't swell
Fixed up my sore bun, 'til I was well.
Don't give me crap, just a southern itty Belle.

Sore feet, teeny sore butt, fling but they do adhere.

When I came home, with all my rovin' done.
To rigged western travel I said uh-uh.
To the desert I jeer don't give me none
Lit out a'runnin' away from the sun.

Sore feet, teeny sore butt, fling but they do adhere.

Give me my green state, it is the best
All grassy plains and all mountain crests
No hidden small ant hills, just waspy nests
No hidden stickers to contend with like in the West.

Sore feet, teeny sore butt, fling but they do adhere.
Sore feet, teeny sore butt, fling but they do adhere.

Four of your fives for not going the obivous route (Jackson). And Jeff: Since you brought that chestnut out, where did the Lone Ranger take his garbage?

Thanks Michael.

Very clever and even more hysterically funny. Excellent rhymes and great imagery...say, did I ever mention I got a Davy Crockett imitation coonskin cap for my 5th birthday, along with one of those really cheesy "pop-guns"...you know...balsa wood handle, little tiny trigger, a thin, short metal barrel and...the coup de grace...a pitiful little piece of cork that was tied or cheesily fastened somehow to the barrel with a piece of string, so you didn't lose it (and also so it couldn't go far enough to hit anybody else...the string was maybe 10 inches long, at the most)...it made this lame little pipsqueak "pop" sound when you fired it...boy, I was in little boy heaven with that cheap-ass little pop-gun...somewhere on this earth there is a picture of me in our backyard back on 15 Carlin Street in Norwalk, Connecticut - grinning like a Junior Village Idiot in total glee to commemorate that 5th birthday and the bounty of gifts (cheesy pop-gun & coonskin cap and maybe a wiffle-ball or something)...I doubt any kid today is any happier with the most grand and expensive video game or whatever than I was with the junky little stuff...Anyway, you get extra "5's" from what's left of that happy, carefree, day-dreaming little boy in that long ago backyard...he'd have thought this parody was the greatest thing in the whole wide world 'cause he knew that song just about by heart...woulda had the giggles for a week and annoyed everyone in the house singing and probably have gotten in trouble at school, too...thanks!!! Oh...this 54 going on 55 year-old "boy" thinks it's a pretty neato-keeno piece of work, too...

"Sat on a mound of ants when I was seven" would have been harder to work with adagio, so I understand poetic licence comes into play here - very funny - 555 - and funny OS to use
Adagio - February 12, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Paul...took you back to childhood, eh?

Thanks, Stu...exactly why I used that age. :)

Pat, this is great! What Paul said up top. I had one of those pip-squeak air guns too. I think you really, really made his day with this song. Very clever, well paced and an all around cute nostalgic piece of work here. And to answer Mike Ps riddle. The Lone Ranger takes his garbage to the dump to the dump to the dump dump dump. A five gun salute to you from a volley of Davy Crocket air rifles from the Alamo City where Mr Crocket said his last hurrah.

Thanks Guy.....and lol on the Lone Ranger. I hadn't heard that one before. :D

This one hits a little too close to home for me. I had an unfortunate fire ant experience while my family was on a road trip through the south when I was about 5. I was from NYC, so I assumed that these little critters were harmless, like the ones in Central Park. Big mistake. 555 for bringing up bad memories...

Subbing in 'Teeny Sore Butt' for 'Davy Crockett' was pure genius. And you backed it up with them authentic Adagio fun-with-lines... um, lines. I often wonder if I'm nuts. And I just figured out that's why we all fit in here :c).
