The Lyrics

If you had told me back in December 2002, when I first found Amiright, that I would one day write a parody about mimes, I would've said... nothing. This is an answer to my man Johnny D's "Suspicious Mimes," and, Johnny, in case you're wondering about that ". . . . ." comment I left, count the dots!
Hello, Marcel, my old friend.
I've come to talk, but you pretend.
Because precisioned is your creeping.
Making motions like you're weeping.
That precision that was planted in my brain
seems insane.
But you are bound... by silence.

His best routine, he walks along
there in place on cobblestone.
'Neath the halo of a streetlamp
exercises an art that's so camp.
And his guise was dabbed with the splash of the white makeup.
Some shakeup.
And he is bound... by silence.

And in his upturned hat I saw
ten dollars, five cents, maybe more.
He is talking without speaking.
We are hearing without listening.
Now I'm writing song... his voice will never share.
Would not dare.
Because he's bound... by silence.

Schools to learn this, I don't know.
Silent routines, can he grow?
Hear his words, you can't, I bet you.
Don't like mimes? You say, "I'll get you"?
But his words... like silent raindrops fell.

Don't heckle.
His will
is silence.

And the people bowed and prayed
to the whitefaced god they made.
And the people, they gave such clappin'
to a guy who's acting like Chaplin.
But I say there
"I've seen better entertainment
written on the subway walls
and tenement halls!"

Hey, Mister...
You're bound...
by silence.
One time, Billy Crystal and Robin Williams were on "The Tonight Show" together. Jay Leno mentioned that Williams had once been a mime. Suffice it to say that Williams has since found much louder ways to entertain people. Crystal must agree, because he said, "A mime is a terrible thing to waste."

perhaps the most elegant mime song on the site which only makes it funnier

I think we're running out of mime jokes... Running out of mime. [checks invisible wrist-watch] Yes, we're running out of mime, all right. [scrapes the bottom of an invisible barrel for more mime jokes]. Nah, I'm all out. Or maybe I just don't SEE 'em. 5s, Michael.

What Alvin said. I contemplated doing "The mime's still alive bearing sounds of silence" to that well known ditty from "Sound of Music" for today, but I couldn't find the words.

Rest in peace, Marcel Marceau. May we have a moment of... oh, forget it.
