The Lyrics

The Sounds Of Tapping

At an airport late one night
I got there early for my flight
While at the bar where I was joking
Felt a turtle-head start poking
So I hurried…in a men's room down the hall
Through the wall
I heard the sound…of tapping

Well, I was taken by surprise
Could not quite believe my eyes
'Neath the barrier I did see
A shiny wing-tip coming right at me
And it jumped and danced like a routine by Fred Astair
While sitting there
I saw the foot…was flapping

I muttered, “Are you in distress
Is this a code for S.O.S. ?”
“No” he answered, “Are you willing
To give my pie-hole a filling ?”
And I thought it strange…this polyrhythmic man
Just thinks he can
Romance me while…I’m crapping

Now I don’t condemn the life
It’s just I prefer my wife
And I see no fascination
With this place of defecation
And the cops, treat culprits like a plague
That’s spreading…and now Craig…
They’re trapping

This does not look good I fear
You’ve rear-ended your career
And the media is ranting
“I’m not gay”…the words you’re chanting
But the proof is…the path to your pager is written in your bathroom stall
So Larry falls…
Remembered for his sounds of tapping

Bravissiomo! I needed a wake-up laugh and you've supplied it. :-)

had me tapping my toes...but only for rhythm's sake...wonderfully written

Didn't quite get all of the jokes that were in 'Man-code' (turtle-head? Shiny wing tip? What they?? Or am I best not knowing...! ) but still funny nevertheless, and perfectly paced to a very difficult OS.
John Barry - January 15, 2008 - Report this comment
Thought from the title that this was going to be a "Raven" riff. Instead a well-deserved lambasting of craven Craig.

Thanks McKludge, Stan, Dee,AFW and alvin. Wendy...A wing-tip is a dress shoe worn by men in suits. A turtle-head...well maybe you had better not know...but it's not just a "Man" thing. John...he was cravin' all right.

Beautiful, took me a liitle while as a Non-American took work out the subject person in the song, thank goodness for Google :) Funny read

Why, just yesterday, I was saying that it's been a while since we had a good Larry Craig parody. How did I miss this one? I must've been in the bathroom when it went up.

Wendy - Wing Tip is a style of shoe and the turtle - well you are probably better off not knowning.

IB - We just cannot give the gentleman from Idaho enough credit. Well done and at no time in this parody did I detect a 'stall' in the pace and humor. I mentioned the Senator in a parody a ffew days ago called ""I Guess That's Why They Call It The News". This parody is over the top. Fine pacing, timing and humor.

There is only one place that I know when a flush beats a full house. That is when the public restroom is full and a line has formed waiting for an opening. But my 5 of a kind will beat any flush or full house.. Fantastic!

This was good, but the timeliness is a bit past due, and nobody can write a better parody about this topic than Spaff.com's "Restroom Date's A Senetor". This was still good, don't get me wrong, but it was a but out of time.
Agrimorfee - February 13, 2008 - Report this comment
(SOTM) I think it would have been better to leave Craig out of it, just because the story you had going was building up to what could have been a fantastic climax (um, er, you know what I mean...)

SOTM - I had the same problem as Peregrin... When I understood what it was about, I found it funny. 5's

3 series of 5 taps for this parody of a classic. But what drives me NUTS is when they use this and other hippie tunes in the mass liturgy here in Peru, and they do it in El Salvador, too.

(SOTM) Wait, is there an inside joke I'm missing about men on men in the loo? Must be, 'cause the aforementioned Spaff parody kinda went over my head. This is still kinda funny, though.

(SOTM) Never been a big fan of political parodies myself, but you pulled this one off decently.

I was listening to Spaff's "Senator" parody on my way home from work this evening... unfortunately, I don't think there are any "Larry Craig" parodies which match up for wit and wordplay; But "And I thought it strange…this polyrhythmic man
Just thinks he can
Romance me while…I’m crapping"

was hilarious

Going head to head with Spaff is always tough, I though you did well with this one.
Kristof Robertson - February 29, 2008 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Where this works (as does Spaff's "Senator") is that you don't have to be overfamiliar with the story to get the humour. Pretty good stuff, IB..."you've rear-ended your career" was a fave. 555+

Thos was awesome,5s

(SOTM) I think that the topic worked even if one wasn't familiar with the Senator situation and the Idaho restroom, my one problem is slight, and that's the pacing was as tight as it could have been, words were cut or abbreviated that didn't need to be.. .but great parody and awesome rhyming.
