Song Parodies -> "John Barry"

Original Song Title:

"Goldfinger"

Original Performer:

Shirley Bassey, John A. Barry, & Anthony Newley

Parody Song Title:

"John Barry"

Parody Written by:

Tommy Turtle

The Lyrics

The Turtle had posted several parodies of this OS, and had several others written or half-written, before John graciously informed me that he was in fact the writer of the original "Goldfinger" theme. Gracious, hell! - he was plugging his album - but WTF, I'm in awe of the guy for that and for so much else.
John Barry
He's The Man, words sesquiped-al-i-an
An alien?

Thick dick-shun-ary
Does one need, to Barry-tone rubrics read
John, I concede!!!!!!!!

Thought I'd heard all a Turt-all could hear
But his origin's chthonic, I fear*
Barry knows by heart all T. S. "Elliott"
Whereas I can't
Even "spelly-it"!

John Barry
Poignantly, pens polysyllabic plot
While I'm a swot!

Makes me yank High School books off old shelf
When he tells us, "Go 'Prufrock' yourself!"**
Tragic truth: T--V's terrible taste-land
Minow whines: "What
"Wanton wasteland!"***

John Barry
He's The Man, The Man of lo-qua-cious-ness
Penned this OS!
Wrote "Goldfinger", yes!
Gold, no less!
Much impress:
Articulateness
I confess
He's the be - e - e - e - e - e - e - e - e - e - e - e - e - e - e -est!

"The title track was first performed by Anthony Newley, who wrote the lyrics to John Barry's music..." quote from mi6.co.uk. *Thanks to John for adding "chthonic" to my lexicon, in "Vast Wasteland IV. Death by Watching". The meaning of "chthonic" is.... Hey, as Ma and Pa Turtle always told tiny Tommy, "Don't ask us; go look it up yourself!" (Mostly, 'cuz they didn't know heh heh.) **"The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock", by T. S. Eliot (ok, I can spelly-it), referenced in "The Waste Land I. The Burial of the Dead" ***Former FCC Commissioner Newton Minow, whose 1961 speech John turned into "Vast Wasteland III. The Ire Sermon" . All three parodies © John A. Barry. All else © 2006 Tommy Turtle.

So wait a minute here. The John Barry from Amiright is the VERY SAME John Barry (1933-) who wrote the music for the James Bond films?
John Barry - March 20, 2006 - Report this comment
If only it were so, Olvan. I had made a jest suggesting that I were he, but I am in fact the nonmusician's nonmusician. 5s, TT.

nice "giving-of-the-finger"

Yes, I can also testify as to the "non-musicality" of Amiright.com Parody-Writer John A. Barry...ooh...I feel like such a bastard, especially after I so fervently urged him to get up and perform some of his parodies at the "Espresso Gardens Cafe" in San Jose, CA...actually, he didn't do that badly. And he couldn't have been born in 1933 unless he also located Ponce de Leon's mythical "Fountain of Youth"...JB, you are what, somewhere around my age (55, going on 56 in about a week-and-a-half).

Well, I tried to tell you (as Turtle Tutor) but, too late, I'm afraid. Good job with this though. 555

Olvan, John B., alvin, Paul, Rick C. aka Turtle Tutor, thanks. Glad this was posted before "Tutoring", maybe the misimpression added to the effect.

I should have known it wasn't the same "John A. Barry". After all, if I were a world-famous, award-winning celebrity, and were posting here, I certainly wouldn't post under the name "Tommy Turtle". I'd sign some silly pseudonym, instead.
