The Lyrics

Here are two songs to mark GM's announcement of a five week suspension of the production of the Chevy Volt; caused, I'm told, by GM's inability to keep up with runaway demand (baroomp CHING!) I think the following two 'greenhead" songs perfectly captures America's "romance with the Volt" which precipated GM's drastic action
(Cue intricate opening drum riff)

Little Chevy Volt
You're really humming fine
Lithium batteries and a plug in
With 240 VAC line
Charge her up for ten hours
Then drive her forty mi-yi-yiles
C'mon and plug her in, charge her up, BACK HER OUT
Chevy Volt
Wa waa (Yeah, yeah, little Chevy Volt)
Wa wa wa wa wa waa (Yeah, yeah, little Chevy Volt)
Wa WAA (Yeah, yeah, little Chevy Volt)
Wa wa wa wa wa wa (Yeah, yeah, little Chevy Volt)
Wa waa (Aaah, little Chevy Volt)
Wa wa wa wa wa wa

You oughta see her at the Starbucks
Or at the cheese 'n wine shop
That tiny carbon footprint
Just gives her PC pop
More PC than the Prius
Even Volvos too, woo woo
C'mon and plug her in, charge her up, BACK HER UP
Chevy Volt
(Slight Pause)
a-wa waa (Yeah, yeah little Chevy Volt)
wa wa wa wa wa waa (Yeah, yeah little Chevy Volt)
Wa WAA (Yeah, yeah little Chevy Volt)
Wa wa wa wa wa waa (Yeah, yeah little Chevy Volt)
Wa wa (Aaaah, little Chevy Volt)
Wa wa wa wa wa waa

Gonna save forty thousand
And buy a Chevy Volt
New outlet and an extend cord
And I'll be ready to go
Take her out to the co-op
And let 'em know
That I'm the greenest dude around
Tree Hugger gonna shame you down
Gonna plug her in, charge her up, ROLL HER OUT
Chevy Volt
Wa wa (Yeah, yeah little chevy Volt)
Wa wa wa wa wa wa ......

(This second song is a takeoff on the Beach Boys' "Shut Down", which is about a drag race between a fuel injected Corvette Stingray and a Super Stock Dodge Dart with a 413 cu. in. engine. Mine is about a competition between Toyota Prius Hybrid and a Chevy Volt over which can go the furthest on a gallon of gas)

Talk it up, talk it up; Hugger gonna shame you down
Talk it up, talk it up; Hugger gonna shame you down

It happened at the Starbucks at a quarter past nine
Two aging hipsters yelling side by side
Yeah, a Toyota Prius Hybrid and a Volt 14*
Were arguing carbon footprint and it got real green

Talk it up, talk it up; Hugger gonna shame you down

We start off at the co-op with a gallon apiece
My Voltec driving platform is now unleashed
My lithium ion batteries are humming cool
But the Toyota Prius hybrid's yet to burn it's fuel

Gotta keep cool now, gas tank shift here we go

Power split Prius is moving slow
But my lithium ion voltage is running low
To up the wattage, I'm burning gas
Fuel tank's nearing empty, don't know if I'll last

Pedal to the floor, hear the 1.4 go
And now the Toyota Prius is starting to slow
He's hauled with Atkin' cycle, but it's understood
I got eighty cubic inches drinkin' under the hood

Burned your gas, burned your gas; Hugger, now I shame you down
Burned your gas, burned your gas; Hugger, now I shame you down
Burned your gas, burned your gas, Hugger, now I shame you down
Burned your gas, burned your gas; Hugger, now i shame you down

*Volt 14 -- Capacity of Volt's back up gasoline engine is 1400cc or 1.4 liter, which is approximately 80 cubic inches

Guess I'm not hip on the steps needed to actually embed a YouTube video link into the text. I just did the ol' "left click Copy, left click Paste" two step. Apparently, there's more to it. Anyhoo, that is a link to the Beach Boys tune "Shut Down." It's a 1962 tune, and I was concerned that some of you readers still young enough to bear and/or sire offspring might not recognize it.

Nice surfin' buffet here...and topical, since they put the Volt in a vault, at least, temporarily...

Electric cars competed with steam and gasoline and lost, 100 years ago. Today's electrics have no more range and are just as slow to recharge as their counterparts of 1912. If you ran out of gas in Amish country, you could still borrow or buy fuel, as they use it for chainsaws and other farm motors. Try borrowing a cup of electricity some time.

At 240 Volts (is that the number sold so far?), it should be called the "Jolt". Great wit throughout; GM's new "happy owner" ads surely will not use it.

Thank you, gentlemen. Just for that, here's a fragment from "Little Deuce Coupe" -- She's my litle Chevy Volt, you don't know what I got ... Well, I'm not braggin' babe so don't put me down ... but I've got the smallest carbon 'print in town (lol)

Great work here but DKTOS on both songs, not a fan of the Volt. (the Nissan Leaf is even worse IMO). If gas gets to $5 a gallon or more, I'm buying something along the lines of a Geo Metro, Honda CRX or Chevrolet Sprint (all 40mpg or higher) since my Buick will barely crack 20mpg on a good day. I'm not buying a Volt...

Maybe Chevy can have a fire sale. Burnt Orange is the popular color. Shoulda called it the Pontiac Fireturd.
