The Lyrics

An article in a British newspaper described how the figures for camping had tripled this year. Not because of the credit crunch but the upper classes wanting to take risks and go native. More basic = more kudos.
No Fixed Abode

Trailer exchanged for tent,
One compartment. Zip up vent.
My home’s got a pool and jet.
Never roughed it, I’m a Safety Exec.
I wanna, pretend that I am skint.
Strike a fire with moss and flint.
I’m a man of means, living out a dream, at
No fixed abode.

Just have one plastic plate.
Food past its expiratory date.
My old Versace and Jimmy Choos
Are hanging outside in the porta-loo.
I’m turning green (but zen,
I’m keeping quiet bout my Mercedes Benz).
Drinking, cold baked beans, washing in a stream, is
Quite a-la-mode.

My favourite bedtime read is the insurance claims.
The natural disasters of ‘Mr No-brain’.
I’m gonna break the rules, and really live on the edge,
Especially when I download toxic waste in a hedge,

I stink,
Not cleaned my teeth all week.
Socks stand up without my feet.
I love how bleak it is,
In a field with no amenities,
and I’m, not using alcho-gel. Aroma, eau-de-naturelle.
I can, be obscene, when I’m living lean, at
No fixed abode.

No longer ‘City Gent’.
Sleep on rocks outside my tent.
Nearly set myself ablaze,
Smoking 10 packs in an enclosed place.
I’ve got, Eco-Warrior aspiration,
With no fear of litigation.
I’m a man of means, testing out the scene, at
No fixed abode.

I though this was going to be about me.

I thought the idea was great but it was sort of let down by the inattention to pacing (e.g. "My old Versace and Jimmy Choos" is 3 syllables too many). Nonetheless, a good idea and not a bad read.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I see what you mean. I took another look and shaved my copy a lot tighter. Appreciate your opinion.
