The Lyrics

This is a commercial jingle from the past. Mari has been performing it in her jazz band recently, so now old is new again. It's in the form of a "round", where all three verses get sung together to make harmonious rapture, and a hell of a catchy tune.
Rap-
What a crappy sound
Rap is the crappiest sound around
Hip, hop, lip, flap
But rap should stay underground
Rap, Disco, Pop, not music

I say it's Disco
From "Seventies"
You're dancin' to Disco pre-STD's
Bass thumpin', beat pumpin', hip bumpin', much humpin'
No, Disco made a lousy sound
Rap, Disco, Pop, not music

I insist that Pop is bad
Stays the same with each passing fad
There's no devotion when it's all promotion
Pop-should be lost, not found
Rap, Disco, Pop, not music
Links abound, if you look.

Rap babble stop! I hear ya.

Nice one you two. I'd love to see your stage performance of this. It must be a hoot. 5 snaps, 5 crackles, 5 pops.

Now, Rick , there ya go again. Rap's gotta be good. It's been around ever since the late '70s - so what's that, 25 years, virtually unchanged - the same handful of phrasing-rhythms, the same lame lyrics and attitude, the same baggy pants, the same baseball caps on backwards for a quarter century. Can you imagine if rock & roll had been content to just carbon copy Rock Around The Clock for 25 years. Good grief, isn't it about time to grow just a little bit?

I love this commercial as a kid. I'm sure you can download it somewhere. I was always fascinated with playing different tunes together that work, Like Peter Schickle does. You can play the "Willam Tell Overture" with "Turkey in the Straw" and they fit nicely. This amazing jingle gave you the themes,1,2,3 then belted them at you as one. Another example is the "Dradel" song from South Park. (5-part) You won't hear Rap or Pop doing anything like that!
