I wrote this in mid-2006, when things looked pretty bad in Iraq if all you were looking at was the mainstream media. But evn back then, I saw quite a few signs for optimism. The progress over the past two years, and the recent (Jan 30, 2009) election seem to justify my optimism.

People in Iraq just wanna be free.

Mesopotamia, people wanna be free.

There was a man, who would gas and bomb whoever he can,
International community wouldn't take a stand.
Seems to me, we had to solve it militarily, whoa yeah
Now Saddam is dead and Iraq is free.

I can't understand it's so simple to me
People in Iraq just wanna be free.

You should see, what a lovely lovely world it will be,
When Sunni and Shia learn to live together
Can't you see? It takes some time to build a democracy, oh yeah,
