Song Parodies -> "A Lighter Grade of Shale"

Original Song Title:

"A Whiter Shade of Pale"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Procol Harum

Parody Song Title:

"A Lighter Grade of Shale"

Parody Written by:

John A W Lock

The Lyrics

Unquestionably and indubitably the definitive heavy rock version!
We stripped the Old Red Sandstone
And drilled boreholes 'cross the moor
I was thinking "geodesic ... "
But the client had ordered cores.
The rig was humming louder
As the sealant blew away
When we hauled out all the other links,
We laid them on a tray.

And so it was that later,
As the printout told its tale
That a trace of Old Red Sandstone
Showed as "lighter grade of shale"

She said "there is no reading!
"Though the tufa's plain to see
"But a sondage through the trailer park
"should resolve it easily."
But a silver Vauxhall Vectra
There was leaning far too close
And although I tried to open one
It might just as well been closed.

And so it was that later,
As the printout told its tale
That a trace of Old Red Sandstone
Turned to "lighter grade of shale"

Sondage? Geodesic? Tufa??? I had no idea what you were on about half the time, John...which impressed me wholeheartedly! 555

This is not a parody that should be taken for granite. Enjoyed!

Fantastic title switch on somewhat-admubrant OS, well-executed. Especially loved the syllable matches ("kind of seasick - geodesic), ceiling/sealant, 'cross the floor/cross the moor, truth is/tufa's, and, of course, "sixteen vestal virgins"/"silver Vauxhall Vectra". Gee, a logical (geological) parody! Great stuff... Drill to 555 meters, and if you find any miners...
