Song Parodies -> "A Lamer Stupid Rhyme"

Original Song Title:

"A Whiter Shade Of Pale"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Procol Harum

Parody Song Title:

"A Lamer Stupid Rhyme"

Parody Written by:

The Comedian

The Lyrics

Best performed in the slow, hymnlike manner of the original.
I tried to rhyme "Fandango"
In Queen's Rhapsody once more
I was feeling parody sick
So I sprawled out on the floor
Old tunes were humming harder
As that feeling flew away
Then I crawled up in my chair to think -
- came greater thoughts my way...

And so it was that later
As the filler for that line
I replaced Queen's word Fandango
With a lamer, stupid rhyme

My readers saw no reason
To vote any fives for me
As they wandered through my posted songs
And would not let me be
One of sixteen top submitters
Who were heaving up their posts
And although some fives were voted
They might just as well've been fours

And so it was that later
Drinking Miller beer and wine
I changed Queen's word Silhouetto
To a lamer, stupid rhyme

Perhaps I should take shore leave
For the truth is plain to see
As I look into my looking glass
I'm forced now to agree
That I'm not the only writer
Who takes readers for a ride
So please smile at me and gladly
Make my sadness straightway die

And so it was that later
With no killer lines in mind
I turned Queen's two Scaramouche's
Into lamer, stupid rhymes

If music be the food of love
Then parody's dessert
And likewise if behind is in front
Then clean in truth is dirt
My keyboard is like cardboard
Seems to slip straight past my head
And my drive crashed straightway quickly
Yellow purple green and red

And so it was that later
Phyllis Diller on my mind
I rewrote this Procol Harum
With my lamer, stupid rhymes

I don't know why this appealed to me, but it did. I admire your raw honesty.

Thank you, Rick. Truth can be wonderful parody material. Some of my parodies occasionally do depend heavily on lamer, stupid rhymes - I just hope they're funny ones!

Very Good! I think the root of much our comedy, is in pain. I struggled as a parody writer for a long time. I think having a close call with a tragic situation in my life, helped me strive to bring more humor into my life and has aided parody writing. Thanks for sharing your story.=)

I liked it too but I also wanted to let you know that I'm doomed to hear "Tights I'm Quite Fat In" whenever the Moody Blues come on the radio now so thanks a lot.

I seem to remember telling you once how to deal with those troublesome words in Bohemian Rhapsody. You not only dealt with them you took it once step further in this parody. Great job JD. And 'Whiter Shade of Pale' is a difficult song to parody as Pippin says above. I know, I've done both of these songs myself. Triple nickle for your efforts here.

Thank you, Claude - and I'm glad "Tights I'm Quite Fat In" has become such a faithful companion.

Thanks, Guy - I guess you could say that I took your B.R.-advice to heart in more songs than one. Thanks for voting your "15¢ worth" here!

5-5-5!! As a long time Procol Harum fan (just bought their latest CD), this particular song is the only PH song I really hate. I'm so glad to now have, thanks to you, a better song to think over the original, so that hearing the original in elevators across America (who ever thought they would ever turn THAT song into Muzak) will no longer be painful to me. Thanks!! Great Job!!

Thank you, Jude - I'm glad my lamer, stupid rhymes will serve a good purpose!

I like the "parody's dessert" line. That's so true. 5-5-5

Thank you, Jan. Not only did I greatly enjoy your own AWSOP parody, but I also enjoy reading all the comments that have been collecting on it!

Injecting Shakespeare's Twelfth Night into a Procol Harum parody is pure genius. How many times have you quoted Shakespeare in other parodies and I (or we) didn't notice?
Johnny D - April 05, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks JJ....take a look around...

JD - I still like this song as I reread it for the ABC competition. WSOP has always been a favorite song of mine, in fact it was playing on the radio just this morning.

Guy, I thank you, sir.

Never heard the song before, but I'm always fond of metahumor, which this would fall under. Have some 5s.

The ultimate insider trip - a parody of one song about writing a parody of another song. I was particularly amused by the way-out-of-left-field Phyllis Diller line. Nicely done, Mr. Deet.
Johnny D - April 08, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks, Mighty Spaff. The Phyllis Diller line was intended to be a humorously lame and stupid rhyme of the original song's line "As the miller told his tale".

Thanks for pointing out the "meta-parody" aspect of this parody....I got a kick out of being able to keep the original song's word "Fandango" right where it is in the original song - at the end of the first line of the original song - and use it as a fulcrum to leverage my references to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, which also has the word "Fandango".

Johnny: As stated in the comments to "Shakespearean Pie," I intend to steal, one at a time, every line from this parody. Two down, 46 to go. Heh heh.

Mighty Spaff: And as stated in the comments to "Shakespearean Pie," I am honored whenever you borrow a line from one of my parodies! ;-D

Well, couldn't help myself, JD...I went back to this one because I couldn't remember what you did with it...HAR! I love the sad, resigned-fate, dirge-like feel this one has...I don't know if you know Fiona Apple's "Criminal" (it's from around 1996 originally), but of my "parody-writing" parodies that one ("I Need Two Syllables") is my favorite. I oughta update it with the two changes I made later because they work much better. Anyway, this one is once again "5's" from me...
