The Lyrics

I believe this is my first attempt at a "Big 7"
Quoting Lines From Famous Writers Makes You Sound Pretentious

“Friends, Romans, countrymen come lend me your rears”
“Nothing but beer itself is all we should fear…”

Quoting lines from famous writers makes you sound pretentious
Mostly when you don’t take time to be more conscientious
If you are not accurate your words won’t be tendentious
Quoting lines from famous writers makes you sound pretentious

“It was the best of rhymes…the worst of rhymes too”
I hate Ohio so… “Columbus…adieu”

One time my Dad was in the mood and Mom put on a show
She shouted out, while in the nude, “Where are you, Romeo?”
Then, 9 months later I was born into this living hell
They stole a trick from Moby Dick and… “called me Ishmael”

SO…
Quoting lines from famous writers soon became my passion
Doctor Seuss and Mother Goose were ripped-off in good fashion
Often I would mix-up lines without shame or compassion
Quoting lines from famous writers soon became my passion

“Frankly, my darling, I hate green eggs and ham”
“Sam says he likes ‘em but I don’t give a damn”

A…
“Penguin can be mightier than sword or blade or knife
“Doobie or not Doobie” could even cause Sinatra strife
Well, “April is the cruller’s month”…remember that for life…

…[spoken by Stan Hall in his Bullwinkle voice]…
“I need these…piles to go before I sleep… here with me wife”

AND…
Quoting lines from famous writers helps you be expressive
Just as long as you agree to not be too excessive
And remember certain phrases really aren’t impressive
Quoting lines from famous writers can be quite obsessive

Great idea, and a VERY worthy canidate for the ABC-Q Round. See you there buddy.

I would qoute myself if I just wrote 555 so let me instead just establish our new acronym, DKTOQ, it will soon be needed if this becomes a popular theme. :-)

~IB~ this is just sooo funny! And that way you brought in our own knight, sir Stan, ~ Duke o'Halls ~ needing ~V~ pills before . . . . Yeah this is "bullwinkle" cute!

IB - I nearly missed this. I think it was the long line of letters in the name of the song in the early morn when I first looked at the new entries that threw me off. Well at least I won't need to comment on this for the ABC-Q round and it is indeed a good contender to win something in that round. Well done Invisaboy and a well written member of your Big 7.. This is great work. And I didn't know that Stan Hall sounded like Bullwinkle. Is Stan aware of this? he he.

Sterling work, IB, and I really liked the mixing up of Dr. Seuss and GWTW quotes. This could be a strong contender for ABCQ or even SOTM, but don't quote me on that. =)

Far out and funny, and I like far out and funny..

From Shakespeare and Dickens to Dr. Seuss, with a lot of other great stuff in between, this is an outstanding parody. I didn't understand the Stan Hall line, and for me that was the weakest part of the parody; but, since the rest of the parody was excellent, this is a very mild criticism.

Thanks for all the comments on this today...
alvin...thanks...I liked that one too
Matty...For better or worse, I'm in
Peter...It's a trend I hope I don't start... (TIHIDS)
lCC...Yeah, where's Stan ?...my joke was "piles"...your's was better (vials)
Guy...I know when I see "Supercali" titles I'm afraid to look...thanks for clicking in
Red Ant...thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad you liked the Seuss/Rhett bit
AFW...I guess our tastes are similar
John...thanks for the comment. Sometimes you want to end with a bang but it ends up being a whimper, Stan once commented that he reads Robert Frost with a Bullwinkle voice. I remembered it and snuck it in. Robert Frost once lived 10 miles from where I live now. There's a National Historic Site there. It's easy to find. Just follow the road to where it diverges in a yellow wood...and bear left...

Funny stuff and cleverly conceived, IB :)

(ABC-Q) Well done. Liked the title very much.

(ABC4-Q) My comments and votes have already been registered for this parody and it read just as well the second time I read it. Good write IB. Good luck with the other 6 of the big 7. I am sure you will achieve that honor.

My above comment stands, though I hate to add that it's always difficult for me to rate parodies of this song against what I know as the "original". Given the numerous parodies of this song on the site (many by high quality authors such as yourself) and their often very differing formats and # of verses, there's got to be several versions of the original. Wish I knew more than just the one...

Since I'm the one who told you to put this into the Q round of course you're going to get points from me. This song is good, and very witty, while still being all out silly.
Agrimorfee - April 22, 2008 - Report this comment
(ABC) For me, I grew up with the long spoken interruption near the end where the guy talks about his wife, so it's always jarring for me to read somebody's "Supercal...:" parody. Yeah, ended with a whimper, not a bang, a little too in-joke, even for Amiright!

I have to take off for missing a bit of the song. . . I parodied this one (it seems a lot of the big 7 made the Q round) and know it's easy to get lost in the repetitious. I have been a huge fan of your work thus far, you know that, but I have to hit on a few things here that were a bit out of character for you. Your parody words of the scatting after the choruses did not seem to line up for me (perhaps a slight change of formatting would help there) and though I thought the idea was humorous, I didn't get the type of laughs I've gotten from your other work. Don't take this the wrong way though, I only judge your work against those you are in competition with, but I take the time to make these comments as a fan. . .

(ABC) very enjoyable, IB, although I suspect you omitted a verse (unless it's shorter than I remember) - the idea was just brilliant, and some of the wit was dazzling in the way you put the famous quote snippets into new contrived contexts - one point though: I got stuck pacing-wise on the "Doobie or not doobie" line, because it required emphasising the second syllable of "doobie" which is not intuitive - but once I did that it was fine, and the rest of the pacing was flawless - 555

Thanks for the comments everyone.
When I went to write this I noticed different structures of this OS on the lyric sites. So, I checked on one of Kristof's parodies (the one about the town with the long name...very funny BTW) and tried to follow the structure he used.
Maybe, since this IS a "big 7" afterall, someone should post the definative version of this OS.

Marvelous job with a great idea, IB ... one of my all-time favorites during my amiright tenure (and not just because of -- in fact, perhpas inspite of -- the mention). :-)
