The Lyrics

London, driving in the city
adding up congestion charges quickly
this now, it's a little sh!tty
where's the public transport running in the city?

on the tube - the system is half dead
most of the remainder held at signals all red

it's not right is the charge thats hurled
Red Ken says that it's fair
come-on come-on and pay that price
it'll go nationwide you may find

and hey, though the traffic is pretty
bad these days, and you're not surprised
when you're Driving, in the City
when you're Driving, in the City

Walked down, the car park is pretty
overpriced and generally sh!tty
London, Government Comittee
say cease and desist your driving in the city

no good place to put a bus stop
halfway down the Strand, on a McDonald's rooftop

it's not right is the charge thats hurled
Red Ken says that it's fair
come-on come-on and pay that price
it'll go nationwide you may find

and hey, though the traffic is pretty
bad these days, and you're not surprised
when you're Driving, in the City
when you're Driving, in the City

Damn town, driving in the city
TV Cam'ras run for reasons too shifty
get out, gotta do it quickly
doesn't seem to be no transport in the city

on the tube - the system is half dead
most of the remainder held at signals all red

it's not right is the charge thats hurled
Red Ken says that it's fair
come-on come-on and pay that price
it'll go nationwide you may find

and hey, though the traffic is pretty
bad these days, and you're not surprised
when you're Driving, in the City
when you're Driving, in the City

Sioux Denim - February 26, 2003 - Report this comment
I enjoyed this parody - timing was a little off, but thyat's the hardest part. A lot of readers on this side of the pond may not pick up on the references to "Red Ken" Livingston and his anti-car policies. I also liked the one about the London Underground, though I've never been to London - I could mentally substitute the names of stations on Washington's Red Line, and it would hold just as true.
