Song Parodies -> "Parody On The Brain"

Original Song Title:

"Rhapsody In The Rain"

Original Performer:

Lou Christie

Parody Song Title:

"Parody On The Brain"

Parody Written by:

Tommy Turtle

The Lyrics

OS was actually banned by many stations for being too suggestive (1966). A revised version was distributed and played. The offending line and its revision are cited in the outro, but reader discretion is advised.

Baby
My brain has forty-three
Unfinished parodies
So, on our last date...
When you wanted love, it was plain...

We're in my car...
I'm rhyming "titular"
While I was thinking, I shunned her
Tonight, I wonder where you are

The AmIRighters seem to say,
"Another - another - another - another!"
But now you are saying,
"Oh, brother! Neeed lover!
"Loser, loser, baby!"

Parody on the brain!
Parody on the brain!

Girlfriend keeps crying to me:
"Please, stop!"
Girlfriend keeps crying to me:
"Please, stop!"

Baby
We walk up to your door
Creating one more line, one more line, one more funny line, and no more
(sha-la-la--la--la--la)

And then a flash in my head
Lightbulb - lightbulb - lightbulb - lightbulb!
I just nailed it dead!
So, now I'm writing, writing...
"Newbies / pubes"; Yay, me!

Parody on the brain!
Parody once again!

Girlfriend takes puter from me:
"Yo, schmuck!"
Also hides hooter from me;
Tells Chuck:

"ChuckyG, he's insane!"
"Parody, must abstain!"

[instrumental -- sound of parody lines going off in his head, as she screams in frustration]

"Yesterday", one more "Yesterday"!

Parody on the brain!
Parody: like cocaine!

Girlfriend is staring at me
"Strange quirk"
Girlfriend is waving to me
"'Bye, jerk!"

Parody on the brain...

[repeat several times a day without using a rhyming dictionary, and fade from neglecting work, family, friends, love, bathing, eathing, sleeping...]

Revised OS line as popularly played: "We fell in love in the rain". Original OS line on banned recording (WARNING: READER DISCRETION ADVISED): "We were makin' out in the rain".... Makes no sense, you say? Guess you had to be there... strange decade. Original "hot" lyrics here. © 2007 Tommy Turtle. All rights reserved.

Could be worse: Some of these parodiers don't have much brain to have parody on.
John Barry - October 05, 2007 - Report this comment
Parody writing is like a drug.

i can relate...i'm similarly afflicted

Boy can we all relate.

If you don't use it you lose it. Did you have dozens of songs that made you think up parodies and didn't know what to do until you discovered Am I Right?

Michael Pacholek, how true.. thanks.
John Barry, alvin, Project Sisyphus, thanks.
2Eagle, I burdened family and friends with them... what about yourself? ... thanks for v/c, and yes, they show that doing this type of thing (or crosswords, etc.) reduces the risk of OldTimer's disease. Too late for TT, though :)
