The Lyrics

THE BILLS HAVE ARRIVED

The bills have arrived, for the gown and tunics.
But they won’t get paid; I’ve not worked for years.
I can’t find a job, as I’m bloody useless;
Whatever I try always ends in tears.

My wife tries her best as she takes to the streets,
The kids go and work down the mine.
While I stay in bed as I watch TV,
Well, it passes the time.

The fear that I have is that one day soon
What we have will soon go.
The car then the house;
It’s no wonder I’m feeling so low!

I’ll rip up these bills, as I’ll never pay them.
You’ve heard it before; it’s a sorry tale.
I’ll end up in court then the wife will leave me.
And I’ll go to jail.

Spot-on pacing. Excellent antidote to the treacly original. Would have been even better if it ended in suicide, preferably self-immolation, while pirouetting in hills that have sung for a freaking thousand years. 544.

Mordant? You bet! But it's the soul of parody. Sweet Julie. Counterpoint: Unemployment. Kids in mines. Wife a street walker. It can't get any funnier.

Just to show that I am not an old curmudgeon, here's 555 deserved points.
