At the edge of the water
Sat Narcissus
An aging swain
On the outskirts of the woodland
Dwelt Diana's favorite maid
Little Echo was a nymph
Much more lovely than the rest
But to him she was a bother
All the nymphs were simply pests

Narcissus spurned Little Echo
The jewel of Diana's grove
Narcissus loved Narcissus
Though his folks did not approve

He went to take a drink of water
What he saw had him enthralled
He turned his back on Little Echo
Ignoring her plaintive call
In the water he could see him
A handsome creature and so fair
Narcissus reached out to hold him
But he couldn't find him there

Narcissus spurned Little Echo
His rejection had broken her heart
Narcissus loved his reflection
He wasn't very smart

Narcissus fell into the water
Echo tried to pull him out
But Narcissus dragged her under
Was weighed down by his big butt
So they perished 'neath the surface
Just Echo's voice could be heard
Narcissus is now a lily
Echo still gets the last word

Narcissus spurned Little Echo
The apple of Zeus's eye
Narcissus loved Narcissus
Each year he'll bloom and die.
