The Lyrics

"American Pie" is often cited as a definitive history of rock and roll music. But I discovered that rock music was around long before Elvis and Buddy Holly.
I remember when I was a lad
That wild hard rock band we had
Folks would gather from nearby caves to hear us play
Just five humanoids, half-evolved
All the mysteries of music were not yet solved
We'd sing together in a circle to scare the wolves away

Daddy played slate, Mama played feldspar
Me and little brother would bang our pebbles
Sister wailed and strummed a lump of coal
We were getting high as we could be
We were living in a tree
Hairy, stooping bodies, but we had a lot of soul

When the circle was surrounded
By the wolves, Lord, cry and cry
Daddy struck flint, Mama struck iron ore*
Sparks would fly, Lord, sparks would fly

We would gather and we would hunt
I was a skinny little runt
Tempting morsel for some predatory beast
It was the very first gospel tune
That I was baying at the moon
I was praying that I wasn't going to end up as its feast

Daddy sang great, Mama sang better
Me and little brother just sort of grunted
Sister blew into a bison's horn
Before each show we would begin
To rub berries on our skin
Audiences liked it, that's how the blues were born

Oh no, our music can't be broken
Made of granite, made of coal
Daddy slew wolves, Mama cooked entrails
Me and little brother would play a game then
Toss a rock and watch it roll

Toss a rock and watch it roll
*Seems I have to work iron ore into every parody I write these days.

Great parody-555! My mom loved Johnny Cash so I grew up listening to him and other country greats. Also, liked the end comment about using iron ore- I need to do a parody of Germany threatening Sweden in 1945 over iron ore shipments and threat of using the V-4 on them if they joined the Allies! The V-4 was testing on Misdroy and never became operational, so it was an empty threat...

I write a lot of parodies about the Edmund Fitzgerald, a ship that carried iron ore. Glad you all liked this one. I try to find something humorous every now and then.

Nice idea, Patrick, and catchy OS choice. So the blues comes from blueberries! Dunno what Richard Dawkins would have to say about 'half-evolved', though - every species is complete. Uncannily, my security code is 'axe'. Don't mean to be picky but 'hominoid' would have been more apt than humanoid, which suggests humanlike aliens. 555.

Got a laugh out of this. Nice visuals throughout...highly evolved. And the ending was very apt.

According to some theories, human beings were colonized onto this planet by space aliens. Hominoid would still fit the rhythm, so if you decide to sing or record this masterpiece, feel free to change it. Perhaps these folks were one of the "missing links" between an earlier more ape-like people, and, say a Neanderthal. "Missing Link" would make a good name for their ensemble. Security code "VCR" and early stage in the development of the DVD and Blue-Ray.
