Song Parodies -> "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"

Original Song Title:

"Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)"

Original Performer:

John Fred And His Playboy Band

Parody Song Title:

"Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"

Parody Written by:

Tommy Turtle

The Lyrics

This smoosh was inspired by the factoid -- not known to yours truly until many years after both songs were released -- that the totally-nonsensical "Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)" was a deliberate *parody* (where have we heard that word before?) of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", which is equally nonsensical -- unless, of course, you believe in the "initials" theory -- LucySkyDiamonds = LSD -- as this writer does. ;)

(Never tried it. Had to help a friend-of-a-friend come down from a "bad trip" once -- wasn't tempted to try it before that; certainly not after). ...Bright, bouncy JID(WG) OS video here. "Everyone" knows the other.... ;)

Lucy in the sky, well, that's what you are
Marmalade skies with newspaper car
K'leidoscope eyes, come to me tonight
Lucy in the sky -- with diamonds!

See the rocking-horse people ... eat marsh-mallow pies
See the girl - yeah! - with the sunny eyes
Those tangerine trees passing by
Lucy in the sky -- with diamonds!

Come to me tonight; on river, we'll float
Picturing yourself on boat
It's all looking kinda' remote

Lucy in the sky, watch that fountain's rain
Yellow and green; hey, flowers, cellophane!
Head in clouds high, cab takes you away
Lucy in the sky -- with diamonds!

[interlude - weird psychedelic sounds]

Turnstile is tight, but someone's in sight
Eyes, kaleidoscopic, quite
With diamonds still sparkling bright

Lucy in the sky; station, train arrives
With plasticine porters, yeah, wearing mirrored ties!
You made me write song of diamonds
I guess this must be where rhyme ends!

So, sir, seems you've sauntered full circle--at 33 1/3 RhymePunsSmooshin'! Your fertile brain, like rust and Nigerian Princes, never sleeps! Cogitate on these 5's during the wee hours!

I spend a lot of time tripping, but only because I'm clumsy

Very clever, TT. Allegedly, John Lennon's son drew a strange picture, and Lennon asked the boy what it was. Lucy in the with diamonds was how the boy replied. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

TJC: Wow, what a compliment - to be compared to Nigerian Princes! That's how you know who your *true* friends are! (heh heh -- kidding, of course!)
Thanks for v/c, and I have a bit of money trapped overseas myself, if you can lend me the cost of recovering it.... ;)

Mark Scotti: Thanks, and that's no lie,-Sir-(gic)!

Old Man Ribber: Thank you! Never thought TOSs were "valid", heh!

Andy Primus: Your parodies and comments are always a trip -- no clumsiness there!

WarrenB: Yep, know the story, and supposedly, the composer of JID(WG) "misheard" the title (don't we have a "Misheard Lyrics" section on this site?) as "Lucy In Disguise With Diamonds" -- hence, *his* parody inspiration. Thanks for v/c. (According to WikiP, the BBC banned LucySky.)

Lu Diamond Filllips; I think I'll keep posting, just to see what funny nicks you come up with! ROFL, and verrrry clever! Almost outdid the comment, but the key word there was "almost". LOL @ that, too! :)
