Parody Song Title:

"Goin' to Ursa Minor"

Parody Written by:

Warren Baker

The Lyrics

Space, the final vacation frontier.
I’m inclined to go to Ursa Minor
Never see the sunshine
I’m gonna have a great time
Open the valve on my air line
And things will turn out fine
Yes, it’s off to Ursa Minor to unwind

Ursa has a distant sun
So far away you won’t see it shinin’
Stumblin’ in the dark is fun
A shooting star appearing now
It’s blinded both eyes
Here on Ursa Minor to unwind.

I thought I’d read in the brochures
That Ursa was worth leavin’ town
Lovely lakes and crystal shores
What I see is very dry
No water spy I
Where on Ursa Minor to unwind?

Was inclined to go to Ursa Minor
Now I miss the sunshine
Now I’m not feelin’ so fine
I’m looking for an outside line
I fear I’ve not much time.
Why’d I go to Ursa Minor to unwind?

Want a priest to read last rites
Before I walk into the light that’s calling
The last flight just left tonight
The air supply, I fear, ain’t flowin’, not flowin’
I’m here on Ursa Minor till I die.

Those stars, just like fireflies, are dancing round me
My short life is snuffed out all too soon
I prepare myself to go into forever
What is it I see?
They’ve flown back to Ursa Minor just in time.

Don’t lose your mind and go to Ursa Minor
You will miss the sunshine
You will miss all of mankind
There’s nothing there for you to find
No decent place to dine
Yes, that Ursa Minor is a waste of time.

My time on Ursa Minor was unkind

I’ll send my travel agent to unwind

Off to Ursa Minor to spend time

Wrong, so wrong, so wrong

Maybe they’ll refund me.

Cash back is in doubt.

Better place without me

There’s the dawn...

Unexpected, outta the box funconventional stuff, Warren! I briefly felt like a 2001esque monkey, banging my stick against your parodical obelisk... "It's full of (5) stars!"

I'm glad you enjoyed my galaxy fest. Now, there are cheaper and safer ways to spend a vacation...but what fun are they?!

A thought about Ursa Minor...on planets that orbit Polaris, is the Sun the North Star? ;D

(ABC) In space.....no one can hear you laugh...but here.....LOL!!!!

Hi Warren, welcome to ABC...This was sophisticated and witty, a change of pace from most styles around here. Pacing was off for me at times. I don't know if JT was ad libbing in your video source, but he did add the word "me" which ruined the "Before the light it's calling" line. Good luck in this and future rounds!

Mark- much appreciated, sir!
Ag- thanks for the comments. The pacing is more in line with the original, but unfortunately the live version was the closest I could get. As popular as that song is, I was pretty surprised I couldn't find the original recording on YouTube!

ABC- Unfortunately, I'm not a James Taylor fan, but this was still pretty good. Nice work!

(ABC G & H) Welcome to ABC, Warren! This was pretty good, even with the minor pacing issues. Unlike Decathlon, Artistry, SOTY and SOTM, ABC can be more of a "show us your parody" type of contest than a "how good is your parody?" type. 4-5-5.

Thanks, Abbott and Andria. Though I am a little confused between the distinctions of "show us.." and "how good is...". Being new, please forgive my ignorance!

"Show us your parody": Basically showing your parody to other contestants, and to guests viewing the contest threads on InThe00s.
"How good is your parody?": Competing where the quality of the parody is the aim of the game, rather than simply showing off your spoofs. You're very much forgiven, btw.

(ABC GH) This parody is the reason why holidays (that's Aussie-speak for 'vacations') require more thought than 'I hear there's a good bar down there'. Very good parody, worthy of a 555.

The future of vacations! This one was really out of this world!

(ABC G/H) Totally far out and I mean FAR OUT!! I bet that Ursa Minor was an unwinding experience. If I were to go to Ursa, I would meditate like Buddha from Space Buddies: (closes eyes and meditates): Ohm...Ohm...Ohm...OK, take some stellar 5's and good luck on the contests!

Thanks, Andria, for the clarification. This helps me differentiate a tad more. And thanks so much for v/c BPC, Matthias, and Christie.

My geek side is proud that I knew the reference. I enjoyed...surprised it was hard to find the OS on youtube too

Thanks, Jeff. There were a ton of live versions of this song. The one studio version was a scratchy, tinny recording. Much appreciated!

Ignore the above comment if you see it before it was erased, you did post a video and I had no problem following your pacing to the original song you provided. . ..I've always felt this song was. . .boring as heck, so your lyrics are a big improvement. Not a terribly funny topic, but certainly unique, and I like unique. . .good job Warren

Good old James Taylor, a fave of mine. Nice subject matter, just be glad it wasn't Ursa Major. 555
