Original Song Title:

"I'm Henry VIII I Am"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Herman's Hermits

Parody Song Title:

"I'm Richard III I Am"

Parody Written by:

Phil Alexander

The Lyrics

I'm Richard III I am
Last Plantagenet King, I am
I'm being buried on a Leicester floor
Near to the car park I was buried before
And I was killed by a Henry (Henry!)
Who fed the world a historical scam
Was a nasty dude for an enemy
King Richard III I am

Second verse, now in a hearse

I'm Richard III I am
Beaten by a Lancastrian
My last words you will know, of course:
"A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse"
When every hand is agin me (enemy!)
I couldn't even take it on the lam
Dead on Bosworth Fields by Henry
King Richard III I am

I'm Richard III I am
Not very nice in rhyming slang
I've a hunch you think I'm a crook
-back, that's just the way that I look
Never made it to a cemetary (Cemet'ry?)
A car park then Cathedral's where I am
Now I'm dead, I'm a bit more sedent'ry
King Richard III I am!

K - I - N - G Me
King Richie (King Richie?)
'King Richie ('King Richie??)
King Richard III I am! I am!
King Richard III I am!

Excellent trip back in time to the land of Filbert Street (Phil and Andy may get the reference). Very topical as well, I dare say Richard got a bit of a raw deal. Not really an exit befitting a King! A friend of Merry's who is an occasional cache reader of M&P's but a HUGE RIII follower (went from California to the recent RIII events in Leicester will be interested in this. I am sending her the link. If she comments, she will probably do so as "Wandlimb".

I learn more about history here at AIR than I ever learned in school. Well done!

Well done. I remember reading about this and all I could think was whether he got a ticket for being in the parking lot too long.

Enjoyed in very much Phil. Excuse my ignorance, but what is meant by taking it on the lam....?

:-) Thanks all... Could've sworn I'd commented on here already
Pippin - I was at uni in Leicester, so of course will get the Filbert St. reference (though I only went to one match there)
Mike - To run away, or as http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/take+it+on+the+lam would have it::
"to flee or escape in great haste: "
:-)
